Re:Campaign contributions ruling
If you read up about the precedent, you'll find questions as to whether the actual judgment ever existed. http://cornellsun.com/section/opinion/content/2010/01/26/court-ignores-precedent-creates-corporate-monster
scroll down a little. The precedent *never* existed.
BTW, isn't the first amendment a right for an individual?
If corporations have the same rights as individuals, they can now make as many ads as they want in as many venues as they want in direct support of candidates. Fox broadcasting, as an example, owns radio stations, newspapers and TV stations. They can now directly support their candidates. The person with the loudest megaphone wins.
And the old straw man argument "well wouldn't limiting free speech of corporations limit the speech of their stockholders free speech?"
No, there are these things called "political parties". Individuals are free to join them to voice their opinion and support candidates. In fact, the way CEOs and boards of directors run roughshod over the will of the stockholders I would say the stockholders have been stripped of rights.

Re:Simple Solution.
If convicted of burglary, yes. But the summary merely states that "he had been charged with burglary".*...
*Whether or not he commited the crime may be in the article, but you know we can't read that.
As a matter of fact, yes you can. Pay particular attention to the part that says "Safety reported recovering some $474 worth of stolen goods from him."
It's interesting that he went on to become a lawyer in California. I can understand him not wanting the information publicly available, I would seek another lawyer if I knew his background.

Re:My uni apparently didn't get the memo
Cornell is one of the universities that promoted Ruckus. The main student-run newspaper had an article on it today where they say their interviewers asking about the university's response was the first the university officials had heard of the news.

Re:They are banned here too..
The Cornell game used rolled-up socks as a replacement in lieu of nerf guns or ammo (though I'm pretty sure the nerf guns aren't banned). Unfortunately, the game is probably dead now - it used to be at http://www.zombiesattackithaca.com/ . For the curious, here's an article on it.

Re:More Microsoft Innovation!
College dorms, for one...
Besides, the GP was making the point that IPTV is certainly not a Microsoft innovation and has been around (in theory and in smaller implementations) for a while. -
Re:this seems dumb
Very true. The only really big idea here is IPTV, I think. Other institutions -- like Cornell are doing the same. The difference here is Cornell, unlike Dartmouth, didn't get a write up in NYT because they didn't use the Wireless buzzword. Sure you'll be able to receive Cornell IPTV over the wireless network, but why not just plug into an ethernet? Why Dartmouth would decide to go all wireless when the majority of their buildings are already wired for Ethernet is beyond me. I don't buy that it's going to cut costs. The only thing it will cut is network reliability.

Re:Media self-censorship a function of consolidati
Saw an article on just this topic at http://www.cornellsun.com/vnews/display.v/ART/200

Call the cops.
It's illegal in all 50 states (I'm assuming you're in the US). It often falls under the Peeping Tom laws but, there are also more stringent and specific laws in many places. In many states the person will become a registered sex offender, as they should be.
Here's a case from 2002. This story, dated August 2004, sounds very much like yours. -
Re:8, 12, what's three digits between friends?
I knew the author back in college when we both worked at the college newspaper (Cornell Daily Sun ). Good writer, good editor, but hard-core computer nerd he was not. [grin]
