Re:c'mon
A little off-topic, I guess, but Joshua has got to be one of the nerdiest passwords around (although any nerd worth his salt would salt it appropriately.)
I took a week-long network security/penetration course from this guy who literally named his first-born Joshua just as a tribute.

Re:Lightbulb problemThe key word in the puzzle is incandescent. I found a better description of the problem here:
Lightbulb and Switches
There is one incandescent light bulb in an attic.
In the basement, there are three switches, each of which can be either on or off. The switches are completely independent of one another.
One switch controls the light in the attic.
How can an electrician determine which switch controls the attic light bulb with only a single trip to the attic and no trip back down?
(You can't send another person or use any other equipment, like extension cords...) -
Re:What is the best way to increase security?
A good format for the permission in writing you need is here:

Don't end up with a massive legal bill, and multiple felonies on your record like noted Perl author Randal Schwartz did:

Re:without changing its functionality or filesize!
I was at a SANS conference a while back, and the instructor, Ed Skoudis, explained it as replacing certain operations with equivalents to represent bits. For example, "add 0002h" would be 0, "sub FFFEh", technically equivalent, would be 1. The more replaceable operations a program has, the more it can store. Hydan also encrypts the data with blowfish before storing it.

Another good book - Counter Hack
Another good book in the same vein is Counter Hack by Ed Skoudis. It can be slightly dated, but still informative.
Here's amazon's page on it. It's ranked 5 out of 5 stars. -
Based on previous editions, skip it
If this is at all like the previous editions of the same title, then I recommend you Skip this Computer Book.
Get a decent book about computer abuse/misuse:
Hacking Exposed, 4th edition
Hackers Beware, by Eric Cole
Counterhack, by Ed Skoudis
These books are written by computer security professionals who may their living both doing computer security and teaching computer security (SANS and Foundstone).
Steal This Computer Book seems to be aimed at too young to know they are getting ripped off kids and computer novices. So don't buy this book if you are over 10.

This has also happened to Nmap ... AG must chillI can understand how American Greetings could be a little uncomfortable about imagery of Plum Pudding getting her ass smacked by Strawberri Shortcake, but they need to chill out. A while back someone took my Nmap Security Scanner and created cartoonish parody that is 100 times more disgusting and offensive!
Yet I didn't sue. I just got a chuckle at the sick mind who would create such a thing! AG should take note.
