Automatic Wireless Network Organisation
babycakes writes "Interesting article over at the BBC about the future of wireless networks. Researchers at Intel are developing mesh networking technology that automatically organizes the best routes between wireless devices for better bandwidth control, now that the number of wireless devices is set to explode." Neat stuff, but they've yet to implement any sort of security controls. Until they do, it's going to be a real party for wireless eavesdroppers. timothy adds: La Camiseta writes "Wired has an article discussing the extent that some people will go to in order to stay connected. My favorite is their 4-way SMP system that fits into a briefcase." -

Advances in Decentralized Peer Networks
PureFiction writes "Peer networks are gaining some attention these days given advances in much more decentralized search architectures and swarming distribution networks. Research has indicated that these decentralized networks are resistant to legal and technological attacks. The continued proliferation of broadband and wireless networking will ensure pervasive deployment of distributed peer networking infrastructure that will drive significant innovations in personal and community digital communications services." -

EFF Releases "The Tinseltown Club"
Seth Schoen writes: "Sing along, kids! EFF is debuting the EFF Action Center with a song produced by EFF and friends -- the Tinsel Town Club Song (a parody of the "Mickey Mouse Club Song"). "Tinseltown Club" makes fun of Disney for its support of legislation which takes away your rights. There's also an MP3 version (with better sound quality) for those who can't see the Flash animation, and we expect to make several other formats available soon. To help save bandwidth, we are encouraging listeners to share the song on peer-to-peer networks." Update: Seth has written in with some mirrors you can try, I've posted his note in the story.. Seth says:"Please try P2P networks first, before going to an HTTP site! The song and animation are definitely out there on the P2P networks by now.
For those who have BitTorrent, use http://bittorrent.theory.org:8080/20020528_eff_tinseltown_club.mp3
For those who use http, get The MP3 from here.
Please go easy on action.eff.org (where the Flash animation is posted) and please do set up and publicize your own mirrors.

New Peer-to-Peer Designs
We've received a lot of peer-to-peer submissions, including the one that follows and this one. Perhaps people will post links to those systems which they think have a decent chance of solving the known problems of p2p networks? PureFiction writes "Given the recent ruling against Napster and the various happenings at the Orielly P2P conference this is a good time to mention a new type of decentralized searching network that can scale linearly and adapt to network conditions. This network is called the ALPINE Network and might be a future alternative to searching networks like Napster and Gnutella while remaining completely decentralized and responsive. You can find an overview of the system as well as a Frequently Asked Questions documents on the site." -
