Re:Perhaps it's just me, but ...
duckduckgo.com has a nice shorthand for single-site searches. !w for wikipedia.. uh, I can't remember any others.
https://duckduckgo.com/bang
You could set it as default search in URL bar and use the 11.4K bang abbreviations... though for some sites bang autocomplete might better be used in the search box instead.
And they have the best site abbreviation as well: https://ddg.gg/ -
Re:Literally what killed Yahoo
Maybe this will be the surge that DuckDuckGo needs to become more prominent. If only they had a simpler name...
Er, because ddg.gg is too difficult to remember?

Re:Change
Give duckduckgo.com a try. It gives good results and you can always add !g to route your search back to Google. They also have great privacy protections.

Re:Revocation
Have you looked at DuckDuckGo for search? Their main focus is on providing good search results with user privacy: https://duckduckgo.com/privacy

https://ddg.gg/ (shorter URL)I switched to them as my primary search engine about two years ago, and have been very pleased. They use the Bing engine and their results are pretty good, but I find I still have to fall back to Google search occasionally. I have noted that my usage of Google has gone down over time.

Re:DuckDuckGo

Re:Google search is useless
Excellent reason to move on to engines like DuckDuckGo (http://ddg.gg)...
I have DDG set as a default on some computers. I really like the privacy. The first few results are very often useful and interesting; especially the nice way the structure different results so you know which are official sites etc. This really shows there is space for and a need for a new search engine competitor. The fact is though that if it's something where you have to look a little further (e.g. a local business with a somewhat common name) it just doesn't cope. If you know that you can also feed through to Google (with a !g
.. or images/news etc. with !i/!n etc.) then that lets you stick with it more easily. In the end, however, the main thing DDG does is remind me exactly how good Google is. I really hope they can come up with a new / better search engine which delivers results which are overall as good as Googles.Anyone have suggestions for improving DDG's default results?

DDG, the search engine that prefers https :)
if you use https://duckduckgo.com/ as search engine, it will give you https links where they exist, like for wikipedia/wiktionary etc etc
