Re:Andrew File System???
I had the same question, and thus hit teh google...
Strangely enough, the answer appears to be "Yes"

I was pretty surprised, too. I thought AFS died with the Andrew project.
Surely, though...Leopard must support NFS? It's certainly good enough for dev work.

Re:Just Like Anything Else...
The US Air Force had been using modems since the late 1950s. However, anyone who had access to an Air Force modems probably also had access to the phone numbers. The first commercial modem was the Bell 103. It was available in 1962. I am guessing that hackers and phreakers have been wardailing ever since.
An introduction to modem history -
Funny you should mention that example
There was a case in Pennsylvania, a couple decades ago, where a group managed to predict one of those daily lotto games. Although in that case they'd weighed down most of the balls with paint, which did make the problem at little simpler. The winning number? 6-6-6.

Hayes?
What does "defining the Hayes command set" have to do with the dial-up revolution? The invention and development of the modem seems like the key part, not any particular command set. See here for a brief history of the modem. Of course, Hayes's company drove down prices, but they would have come down anyway.

Re:DamnAnd I just kicked Solaris off my Ultra5 yesterday
:D
Hey, me too! I inherited one from work and am using it as a Perl / web development box. A dual boot Solaris / Linux machine also makes a very good practice box for sysadmin newbies.
Some useful links for anyone wanting to whack Linux on an Ultra:- ultralinux.org - a site for the Sparc kernel port, including FAQs, supported distros etc
- Installing Linux on an Ultra 5 and setting up a dual boot with Solaris
- Configuring Linux audio on Sparc

Angband is better!
Foolish cowards! Think your Nethack ascii is pretty cool, eh? Well, Angband has supported the Radeon 9500 ASC since it's initial release! Seriously, Angband is a MUCH better game, especially if you can hunt down a copy of AngbandTk. AngbandTK has the same INCREDIBLE gameplay, just with almost real graphics. Angband is based on Tolkien's books.

PAM & KerberosUm, the URL you gave doesn't seem to work (at least for me). Doing a web search, I found a bunch of stuff at Dementia including three releases of the pam_krb4 code.
Looks like pam_krb4-981201.tar.gz would be a likely contender... t
