Re:On Being the Right Size
They did show that zombies which bite you and turn you into other zombies couldn't exist, for the same reason that the vampires couldn't. Although didn't the Romero trilogy end up with the entire world being zombies except for one human outpost? Anyway, the existence of zombie poison has been widely documented for decades. It's not merely a plausible explanation, it's the explanation.

Re:Solar Activity Coinciding with Climate Change
lack of polar warming
Apparently you're unaware that, for example, there have been the biggest glacial calving events in recorded history in Antarctica, the greenland ice sheets are retreating at speeds several times normal, and for the first time in recorded history (after a century of visits), the North Pole is open ocean during the summer.
Here's an article describing the latest report from the Arctic Council and the International Arctic Science Committee about how extreme the polar warming trend is; it is going *faster* than the rest of the world - 5 to 7 degrees in the past century. In short, what you claimed was completely false. I'll provide as many references as you want.
long wave radiation
Once again, a completely incorrect claim. from Scientific American, citing a study published in Nature.
We could go on for a while
Go on for a while with false information? Come back when you're willing to put up true claims backed by scientific evidence (provide links), as opposed to what you heard a caller on Rush say this morning. There's a reason that, by far, the vast majority of climatologists accept global warming due to human action as fact. -

I assume you studied under Edward Teller?

Quantum Crypto Provably Flawed?
I'm asking this question again because it came a bit to late to the last discussion I posted it in
Is quantum crypto provably flawed?
I've seen tons of blurbs stating the the link is "absolutely" secure, but it seems that isn't really the case. (see the bottom of the page.)
What strikes me about all this is the following section:
"each pulse should be attenuated to an average of about .1 photon to reduce the probability of generating a two-photon pulse that could be split and eavesdropped undetectably."
What that says to me is that there is not way to 100% know you're transmitting just one photon.
It sounds like there's no device that is capable of transmitting one and only one photon with 100% reliability. If this is the case, a lot of the arguments about how secure this is are vastly overstated.
In the end QC would be vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle attack by watching for multi-photon emissions.
If this is the case, a lot of the noise surrounding QC could turn out to be hype. (The big plus for quantum crypto is that it's supposedly immune to this.) Is there a quantum physicist in the house? -

Hyenas...
Laurence Frank describe the social system of spotted hyenas and argue that more attention should be paid to social complexity in carnivores. It has commonly been argued that social stress is a consequence of subordination;
Of course it causes social stress and other negative emotions when every female of your species has clitoris of your penis size. -
Roger Penrose Might Say
the worst assumption many of us are making is that humans are not themselves computers.
...it's not just an assumption. There's some very lively argument over it. Penrose tends to the belief there are some non-computational processes that in the universe and they may underly consciousness.
I'll point out here that I know that some of his arguments aren't watertight and the discussion is definitely in progress -- he knows this, as is evidenced by quotes like this from the article: "With apparently genuine humility, Penrose emphasizes that these ideas should not be called theories yet: be prefers the word 'suggestions.'" But they're as well supported as any other speculations about the nature of consciousness. -
Re:I want one in MY backyardContrary to popular belief, radioactive material isn't manufactured. It's dug up out of the ground and purified.
What comes out of these reactors is much less radioactive, for a much shorter period of time.
Are you suggesting that yellowcake (uranium ore) is in any way comparable to this stuff? Are you trolling?
