Re:I'll buy one when... I'm in Finland
US/UK/Canadian cell phone fees are a major rip off.
My service has a basic fee of eur0.66 per month, and it costs eur 0.069 per minute or per text message. The startup fee is eur2.90

To reach a monthly total of eur15 (about $20), I'd need to blather for 200 minutes per month. -
Re:Unlimited wireless in Finland, starting from 57
Or, also in Finland, services starting from 37.70 per month with 1000 minutes and 100 messages per month.

Or, also in Finland, services which cost 0.66 per month [not a typo] with less than 0.07 per minute/message for calls.

Nothing new ...
Finnish GSM Operator Dna (link here) had a some kind of Robot Wars game last year going on in Finland. It was playable in Helsinki central area and one had to find people around central that where in the game to engage and fight them and this was done by phone locationing.

Re:Estonia
I agree that Estonia has bigger growth in technology usage than Finland, but then again it does have a lot to catch.
Ever heard of Wi-Fi in Finland.
Telia Homerun and Sonera wGate just to name few... Not to mention the flat-rate (20â/month from DNA Finland) GPRS connectivity covering the whole country...
Maybe if you weren't so drunk everytime you go to Tallinn you would've noticed this...
I live in Tallinn. I'm not drunk all the time. -
5100 GPRS
I have been using 5100 to provide my internet connection through GPRS connection. My phone company has been DNA.
For some reason it seems to jam the connection every now and then. Still the GPRS connection sign stays even when trying to disconnect in these cases. I have tried this in Linux and Windows XP. I dont think that this is because DNA but rather because of the phone's software. I'm thinking of getting it's software (v. 3.02) upgraded ASAP.
Making connection using infraded device was pain in Linux. It really sucked. I managed to get the connection working with wvdial. There simply wasn't enough instructions.
Other than that I have been most pleased with it.

This has already been done in Finland
Here in Finland DNAfinland, local small telecompanies mobile service provider, already has this kind of service.
You can use GPRS mobile to connect to the net unlimitedly for less than 17e/month. They offer it as the main 'net connection type for the rural areas. AFAIK their licence doesn't restrict your net use, but encourage it. This service has been available from last christmas, and they are keeping it in their 2003 price lists.
Additionally unlimited voice calls within DNA are 39 e/month. All other national calls can be made at price of 0,16e/minute.

Re:Mobile phones might have something to do with t
Well, you can get GPRS in Finland for a flat monthly fee of 16,65 Euros. Yes, it's a bit high, it's what dial-up was years back and you get some 3 - 4kB/s with it.
I believe this includes full internet access, and that there is a cheaper WAP only GPRS that's 4.70 Euros per month.
These prices are from DNA Finland, the rest of the operators have per megabyte prices.
