Online DNA and Gene ordering
DNAhack.com has a list of sites where you can order DNA synthesis and gene synthesis online. In gene synthesis, your DNA will be synthesized and inserted into an E. Coli plasmid so you can easilly insert it into your own E. Coli.
It is very simple: go to a web site, type in "ATCGCCGA..." and put in your credit card number, and the DNA or gene will come in the mail in a few days. -
More people should hack DNA
Genetic engineering is the new frontier - more amateurs should hack DNA. There is a lot of information on this at DNAhack.com.

Adsense
I make enough from Google Adsense on my blogs/sites DNAhack.com and Econotarian.Org to pay for the DNS registration, and I could probably pay for nicer hosting if I wanted to as well and still come just a bit ahead in the end.

DNAHack
DNAhack.Com is the website for amateur genetic engineering. This would be great for that!

Re:Leave genes to the geneticists
I agree that genes should be left for geneticists, but when your compiler, debugger, and emmulator/simulator check for bad or even icky results, it might actually be fun to toy with genes, in an neat visual way.
WIMP!
All this white-bread-spoiled-brat pseudogeekery about compilers and error-checking is sooooo depressing. The true computer pioneers didn't wait for visual IDEs, they hammered out machine code with their bare fists!!!
Don't wait for the technology to mature (jeez!) Get Out There and START HACKING!

For those who want to start early to get ready for this, check out DNAhack, the website for amateur genetic engineering.

Re:first post
See, the farmer shouldn't have replanted. He should have genetically engineered it himself.

Amateur Genetic Engineering
I have links to many sources for amateurs to become involved in (peaceful) genetic engineering at DNAhack.com.
For example, there are Web sites where you can type in a list of DNA bases, and in a few days either get your custom DNA snippets (aka oligonucleotides), or even get the DNA delivered inside bacterial plasmids (aka custom genes). With custom genes, it is a simple kitched-top operation using heat shock to insert the custom genes into strains of research E. Coli.
