This Is Not Correct
You do NOT need an HDMI cable/connection to view high def (1080p).
Your statement is not actually correct. You should continue reading Wikipedia but maybe this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP article instead.
Or to get all the information together here is a nice summary on DRM Blog.
You will need HDMI in the not too distant future to be able to watch High Def. The movie houses are not going to let you watch 1080p on analog, unprotected outputs. -

_ in_Hi-Def.html
As another child post explains, the Blu-ray group just has to disable the branch of players that any "unauthorized" players are in, and that problem is solved.
Any media produced just has to contain a list of the "authorized" keys it will play on, and then your player will be dead from that point on. So maybe you could play a couple of movies per player. OR, the unauthorized Asian players contain a way to generate a different, valid key for each movie. Anyway, go pirates! -
DRM = rent
When there's DRM around something, I can not consider it mine. Thus I'll consider a DRM'd product to be only a rent, and expect it to be priced accordingly.
That's the catch people don't get. So you 'bought' something from iTunes? No mate, you *rented* it for an unlimited duration.
That's why it's cheaper than buying the CD.
There exists is a hole in the marketplace for acquiring songs which you can then do whatever you want with. That hole has long since been filled by P2P applications. They can never be replaced by commercial apps, because they're plain cheaper.
There are some interesting thoughts on the subject at DRMblog -
Re:Eyes on the Prize
Actually, I don't care about a company that wants to try some crazy DRM scheme.
Actually, you should. You mention the DMCA in your post and then say that you are worried about the government stepping in to protect it. The DMCA explicitly does this.
If a company puts DRM in place on a file and then you remove the DRM you are in violation of the law. It does not matter how crazy the DRM scheme is or how easy it is to break. The DMCA is the legal extension of DRM and is how you and I will be prosecuted if we break the DRM law.

Drmblog.com was bashed for this.
Back on December 13 and 14, DRM Blog suggested pretty much the same thing that this guy is suggesting. Here he suggests that people should boycott iTunes and iPod because it is monopolistic. And then here after he had been called a cretin/fool/idiot/etc for even suggesting such a thing, he tried to explain why he was right.
It is good to see that other people agree with this point of view but it is sad to see all of these Apple iPod people that cannot see that there is a potential problem here. Just because Apple competes with MS does not make Apple perfect. They are still a large company that will use any advantage they have to make more money and lock people into their products. -
