1-Click Blooper Playback for Original Trilogy DVD
John Sheppard writes "Normally you have to jump through cheerios to view Easter eggs on a DVD video, but DVDFILE recently launched a new online app that lets you view the 'bloopers' egg on Star Wars Trilogy Bonus DVD with the click of a mouse. Requirements: Windows, DVD-ROM drive/playback capability, and a copy of the Star Wars Trilogy Bonus DVD. DVDFILE would like feedback on this sort of feature; should we do a lot more eggs?" -

One DVD To Rule Them All
Obiwan Kenobi writes "In a gala event last night New Line Cinema revealed their Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring DVD Plans. This includes a 2-disc version on August 6th (in both Pan & Scan and Widescreen, click here for box art), and a special 4-hour, R-rated cut of the film debuting in a 4-disc set on November 12th. While the August release includes some nifty features, it's the four disc version, with the longer cut and three audio commentaries, that really gets the drool flowing." Now that's what I'm talkin about! -

A Closer Look At D-VHS At DVDfile.com
great throwdini writes: "Peter M. Bracke of DVDfile.com has written a more thoughtful piece on D-VHS (mentioned in the Slashdot article, Copy-Protected Digital VHS) based on his impressions of a press demonstration. Says Fox's VP of Marketing, Peter Staddon, 'If we thought it (D-VHS) was going to kill DVD, we wouldn't be doing it.' Peter has even put together a nice little factsheet on the format. Encryption may be absent on D-VHS tapes, but it looks like the practice of region coding may continue." -

ReBoot Comes To DVD (3rd Season)
bodosom writes: "DVDFILE notes in this blurb that ADV films has purchased the rights to the third season of ReBoot It's not really anime but ADV is primarily an anime distributor. If you've never seen ReBoot ... well ... I'm sorry. The canonical episode (Talent Night from the second season) is available on VHS." -

Hidden-Feature DVD Players Again
FModnar writes: "As described in this review on DVDfile.com, another DVD player has been found that exhibits the same menus as the Apex DVD player did a few months ago. Some of the 'hidden' features include the ability to turn off region coding and Macrovision." Sounds like this is a higher-quality player, too. Since both of the Apexes I bought failed within weeks and had to be returned, I certainly hope so. If enough players are region friendly, "chipping" may never catch on much in America. -

Star Wars EP1 On DVD Confirmed By Lucas
Bigmell was one of several people to write about a phone call George Lucas made to KROQ Radio in Los Angeles. Ain't-it-cool-news also had a piece running with the same information. In any case, it looks like a DVD is being worked on, with a September release date. Bonus material includes unfinished scenes from Episodes 4-6. Harry @ aintitcool also had a release date of Sept 12.
