Fiorella Terenzi back in"91I believe Dr. Fiorella Terenzi was doing something this a long time ago:
Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, an itialian astrophysicist, has captured radio waves from a distant galaxy 180 million light years from Earth, converted cosmic waves into sound and transformed the sound into music.
You may never have heard anything like Dr. Fiorella Terenzi's music, but you may recognize the musicians on her 1991 album, Music From the Galaxies. On lead vocals: Jupiter! ("It whistles," she says.) On rhythm guitar: the Sun! ("It bubbles like boiling water.") On drums: pulsars! ("A precise beating time") On bass: Mother Earth! ("It has a very low frequency.") Astrophysicist Terenzi assembled her cosmic combo while studying at UC-San Diego. Using radio telescopes and computer sound-synthesis technology, she intercepted space signals and transformed them into tunes.

Terenzi is known for her CD-ROM Invisible Universe which combines music and poetry with astronomy lessons, and for a sexually charged 1998 book about science entitled Heavenly Knowledge. She has also released a number of albums of her music.
She is known as an Apple Computer "AppleMaster", and has collaborated with the likes of Thomas Dolby, Timothy Leary, Herbie Hancock and Ornette Coleman.

What about...
Uh, hello? Fiorella Terenzi?

Dr. Fiorella Terenzi
Fiorella Terenzi released music based on telescope readings as far back as 1991.
And she's "a cross between Carl Sagan and Madonna"!! -
Re:Listen to gravitational waves
Too weird. Earlier today, for the first time in years I was listening to Fiorella Terenzi's Music from the Galaxies, audio transformed from radio observations of UGC 6697.
She has been doing this sort of thing for years. More info at http://www.fiorella.com/.

Re:the humming chicken and the egg
I don't really see how making a sound of the Big Bang is any different, or less valid, than what a musician like Dr. Fiorella Terenzi does in turning cosmic radiation into musical compositions. Sure, you couldn't have "heard" it in the same sense that we do...but it still produced vibrations and emissions of a sort that we can hear if you translate them properly. You might as well complain that X-ray or ultrasound images aren't valid because the human eye doesn't work in those frequencies.

This was already done by someone far sexier...Dr. Fiorella Terenzi is the first person that springs to mind for me when it comes to recordings of the sounds of space. And she's a fox too!

It's been done
Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, radio astronomer and musician, has already done this sort of thing. (Plus, as her collaboration with Thomas Dolby ("Quantum Mechanic") proves, she also has a great singing voice.

Everyone has forgotten Dr. Fiorella Terenzi?
She is the radio astrophysicist, who took radiowave data from UGC 6697 and turned it into music. She has a album of this music called Music From The Galaxies.
She also sang two songs on Thomas Dolby's soundtrack to "The Gate to the Mind's Eye". (one of my fav soundtracks, and the best of the "Mind's Eye" series), The cuts are "Quantum Mechanic" and "N.E.O. (Near Earth Objects)".
You can check her music out at MP3.com, url:

And, to be a little "sexist" here, she is really hot! She also has her own website...URL:

Space Music
Dr. Fiorella Terenzi has an entire CD of this type of music called "Music From The Galaxies". I did a review of her album on my site at http://www.mervernation.com/101index.html#dit5 and she actually found it and sent me an e-mail thanking me for the kind review. You can hear her stuff on mp3.com and check her out at http://www.fiorella.com
