Re:Prepare ...for a period of simulated exhilarati
Rhino Records has reissued several on CDs. Also, Firesign Theatre has put out a few new albums in the last ~15 years, including Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death, Boom Dot Bust, and The Bride of Firesign.

(Ancient Firesign Theater for those not so generationally challenged).

Re:Just use hemp. Eat or Be EatenThe Firesign Theater Eat or Be Eaten http://www.firesigntheatre.com/albums/album.php?album=eobe
The film centers around a Morning TV show's coverage of Kudzu County and it's upcoming annual virgin sacrifice to the Kudzu Vine, which, if not satiated, will take over the town.

Firesign Theatre
Firesign Theatre predicted this literally decades ago with their introduction of "You TV: TV for You the Viewer." And what do we have now? YouTube. Now where's that Howl of the Wolf movie with Porgie Tirebiter starring High School Madness?
Navel gazers all the way, I tell you.

(Now how did Commie Martyr make off w/ Morse Science High, anyway?)

Good Fction Podcasts
For podcast books there's Podiobooks which has a number of books on offer, both new and public domain.
For comedy sketch and short story, there's Firesign Theatre where you can browse the comedy albums (they've been making them for 40 years) and from each album download sample tracks. They also have a podcast.
For podcast short story and essay, there's The Seanachai. Patrick Mclean comes from advertising, I think, so he has some good writing chops. He has a series called "How to Succeed in Evil without really Trying." It's very funny.
And, pants down, the best monologist in the business is Joe Frank. A free membership on his site allows you to stream a number of full-length shows.
There's also Transom.org where hopeful producers submit stuff for NPR-type program directors to peruse. Much of it is downloadable, and it includes fiction.
Lastly, I shamelessy plug myself. Of course, if I could actually shamelessly plug myself and record it on podcast, I would have a lot more listeners. Pferdzwackur's Tin Man is exactly what the original post was asking for. Original serial fiction, with bells and whistles attached. -

Some decent podcastsThese are some of the podcasts to which I listen on a regular basis:
Coverville: Nothing but covers of songs. Good commentary; takes listener requests.
Firesign Theatre: Snippets of FT albums and commercials they've done. I don't know if the commercials are serious or not, but they're for real companies, and are typical FT.
On the Media: A weekly NPR program. Since I'm rarely in the house Saturday when it's broadcast, I love the ability to listen to it during the week as I have time.
The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd: The serialized (and funny) adventures of Dr. Floyd as he travels through time battling his nemesis Dr. Steve.
Safe Digressions: Your daily dose of poetry, and a refreshing break during a day of techie nonsense.
Science @ NASA: Brief reports on various NASA activities. The stories about the Huygens probe have been particularly interesting, especially the description of methane rainbows on Titan.

Re:Read between the lines.
I don't know much about Chumbawumba, but the song is probably a reference to the Firesign Theatre's 1974 (or was it 1975?) album "Everything You Know is Wrong."
Very strange/awesome humor. A must listen for all discordians. If you liked "Fight Club," You'd probably dig this stuff... I've been a sort of fan for years. -
I'd better check.
"(!tfel re'uoY) !thgir eht no sdneirf on tog t'nia uoY (!thgir er'uoY) !tfel eht no sdneirf on tog t'nia uoY"
It's ok. They're speaking Chinese.

Re:Better Investment
It's a ball. That glows. The glow shifts, for example, on the rise or fall of the stock market.
A recent Firesign Theatre album, Boom Dot Bust, has a great bit about a "smart home" whose interior decoration and furnishings change to match the value of the owner's stock portfolio. As the stock bubble comes crashing down (this is a 1999 album, BTW), the house rapidly transforms, with hilarious consequences.
Now that's glowing cyber-balls.

Re:w00t!-Revolutionary War.
In the words of immigrants in a Firesign Theatre piece, "We were running away from poverty, injustice, the law, and the army."
I love those guys.
