Re:Anonymous Coward
Found this on yahoo search for "facebook forgot my birthday" (without quotes).
1. Make wrong entries for birthday until you are asked to recieve a security code.
2. Click the 'send' button to receive a security code at the associated email address of your facebook account.
3. Enter the security code in the security code box below at facebook page. Proceed to the next step.
4. You'll be informed if your account has been accessed from a different location/country. Click at the 'i recognized it' button.
And you'll be escalated to the normal homepage of your account. Have fun!
SourceIt sounds plausible. I recall the security code thing is legit from helping someone else who reset their password differently from what they had written down (or got keylogged and hacked, it's too soon to know) and eventually we got a pw reset page. I have no idea if you can alter your Bdate later, though.

Re:OK, I took a shot at it,
My first result from Google was this: www.frigidaire.com > All Products > Kitchen > Refrigerators > FPHC2398LF, which seems pretty reasonable (there's a button on that page for "guides and manuals").
The first hit from Bing, by contrast, was some "fixya.com" link, which while the title sounds promising actually seems to contain no information, and instead invites you to "ask the experts"... maybe some sort of paid catch-all link?
So on this at least, I'd say Google: +1 (useful), Bing: -1 (actively misleading)

Re:Donate
Not personally, but I've seen it countless times in forums and product reviews. Here's a quick one from Google:

Just google for "printer won't scan if out of ink", and you'll see lots of them. Newegg reviews for various all-in-one printers say the same thing for certain models. I believe Epson is one of the big offenders, though the link above is about a Canon.

Re:And what about search farms?
CustomizeGoogle is a firefox plugin(which hasn't been updated for 3.5 yet) lets you ignore domains.
I had a ton on there.
http://www.fixya.com/ seems to have risen up now that I'm searching on how to fix some lawn equipment I inherited.
"Yard Machines fix belt" and it comes back with http://www.fixya.com/tags/yard_machines_deck_diagram_beltOf course this is 100% useless.
Those sites are fun to mess with friends. "Dude, did you know that there's an entire webpage on fixing your impotency?"

Re:Value is asserted, not assessed.
"definitely not 5-10x as reliable as my cheap Saturn. "
another bad car analogy. Also have a saturn, fairly new model, with 80k miles, suffering from the common power steering problems. Needs whole new $1000 steering column. Managed to rig it so we can reset the power steering while driving but it's still a huge pain and I will never buy or recommend a Saturn. -
Re:An Example
This is a common problem for the Dell XPS line. The authentication chip in the power adapter is connected to the motherboard by what amounts to an antenna. Both ends of the circuitry are known to fry at the slightest power surge or EMP. It's not that I literally *couldn't* fix the computer, but it doesn't make fiscal sense for me to buy a $200-$300 motherboard, then spend hours replacing it. His first Dell ended up with the GPU failure that's also well-documented. In both cases, we're talking internal hardware failures that isn't a 2-minute job like RAM or a hard drive. Even if I were to take matters into my own hands, there's not a chance that Dell would honor the warranty on either machine if I had manipulated the guts of the machine.
It's not beneath me to ask for help. I did call Applecare and did go to the Apple store. When I told them the problem, they're like "send it back to us", giving me no guarantee of data integrity. When it came time to do a disk image, the only two answers I got were "Time Machine backs up your photos and documents but I'm not sure what it does with your system files" from the "geniuses" at the Genius Bar, and "We don't officially support that, but you can check our forums" from the phone techs. That's how I found out about Carbon Copy Cloner, which I did try, albeit unsuccessfully.
The experience as I shared it is exactly how it went down. This chain of events happened last week, before the GP ever posed the question. It was never my intention to carry out an ad hominem attack on the GP. He asked the question regarding a specific example of something that took longer to do on a Mac than on a PC. I perfectly accept that a large portion of it is because of my unfamiliarity with the platform. That's no secret and I've admitted to that in my other response as well. However, I have no ill-intent toward the GP. I am not looking to embarrass him. I'm not looking to diminish him in the eyes of others. To the contrary, I will be taking a closer look at Time Machine and CCC. I'm also going to look into adding a Mac Mini to the budget for next fiscal year with the intent of trying all the different things listed here and hopefully learning how to better maintain the platform. If admitting my own fault and doing something to rectify it at the suggestion of the GP is embarrassing to him/her, then I apologize as such. But i have been accused of being a liar, an idiot, and intentionally committing libel the GP, none of which are true.

Re:Comments from a PC gamer
Hmm, seems I have to partially retract that: http://forums.gametrailers.com/showthread.php?t=534717 Obviously there are VGA cables from third parties in the market. But everything I find on short notice says digital is encrypted.
Strange. What I was able to find indicated that at worst it was a framerate selection issue.

This guy said he had no problem other than a dodgy cable.

Not trying to break your stones, just looking into it since my purchase is pending soonest.
