New Laws Regarding Digital Data Distribution
sentinel writes "A bill just passed through the HR, it restricts the copying/distrubution of texts, movies, or songs through the Internet. Basically, if you were to copy a book word for word, and made it available on the Internet, you would be in trouble. Publishers used to sue those people for looking at the copied books/works for about $250 to $2000 in statutory damages, if they did not register their name. Now, if you do this, you would be fined $500,000, and given up to 5 years in prison. If this bill DOES make it into law, you would have to PAY for everything you read across your computer, from articles to pictures. You can find a short description of the law at this location " -

Russel Fish has a site that will house the data (much of which is on paper) and allow it to be searchable. This is major news in the opening of public records and making them available on the internet. Linux is mentioned about six times (including a reference to world freedom)." -
Linux Quake Logo Contest
Shaw Terwilliger asked me to plug The Linux Quake Page's new Logo Contest. You've got 10 days left to submit your entry. Special consideration given to Free Software. IMHO "Special Consideration" is a bad idea. If Free Software needed special treatment, I wouldn't have created all the images on Slashdot in The Gimp.
