Re:One Purchase, One Review
Exactly this.

Re:And how would this be useful to customers?
Would you care to qualify your claim with a link to a news story or other investigative work?
It definitely seems like there's a glut of fake reviews on amazon, but Alex Blumberg's (yes, of This American Life, yes, recipient of a George Polk Award for same) research only turned up bad behavior on the part of sellers. Enabled and allowed by Amazon opening up the market to international sellers yes, but... not Amazon directly.
I'm not disputing your major point (that 4 and 5 star reviews are untrustworthy), but I do want a citation for your claim that Amazon itself is directly responsible for fake reviews. That Amazon as a company is first party to the creation of fake 4-5 star reviews would be (should be!) a bombshell of a news story.

Unlikely - didn't Verizon FiOS promise to NYC?
The ReplyAll podcast covered the Verizion FiOS "everywhere" in NYC story a while back. Short version: It isn't coming.
A lofty goal which I find hard to believe will happen. Of course now that the new software engineer millionaires have pushed all of the poor people out of SF - they can start making fibre demands on their ISP (that's sarcasm btw). Even better - Organic Fibre !!!

What Kind of Idiot Gets Phished?
This was the title of a ReplyAll podcast episode a while back. Since they use the Google platform themselves they dove into this question after several kinds of attacks surfaced in the media. Most interestingly those with Google Authenticator keys could be attacked through social engineering (using methods similar to the Google docs attack). Therefore, having an "idiot proof" key exchange sounds like a great and necessary method to secure our stuff. While this is Google only now - I'm willing to bet it will expand in the future. I also use Microsoft's authenticator for work access - and a message pops up on my iWatch asking "are you trying to login" and requires a simple Yes/No tap. Google also has a similar feature in the Google app. No more typing codes.

Of course the attacks of the future will be to steal the current key value off your device.

Re:Wow
Yeah... I'm hoping that most of that money goes to the developers and not the CEO of Yik Yak. I doubt the dev team is going to stick around unless they got some huge signing bonuses.
That said, I'm kind of glad that Yik Yak going away. It was a prime example of the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory, and basically created modern day minority hate groups on college campuses:

Reply All covered the details
Reply All had a good episode on this subject ( https://gimletmedia.com/episod... )
What was interesting is that Verizon has run the cable through the city - but customers just need to call and ask to have it hooked up. So they met the requirement. And that is where the problem comes - Verizon doesn't necessarily own those last few feet. Plus they strung it in places where people are most likely to afford it. Or not.
Deep issue. Give the show a listen.

Re:This is timely
Reply All podcast had a good episode on a cloud photo provider that had massive tech problems and people lost contact with their photos. Worth a listen.
Cloud just means a computer you can't control.

Reply All did a Podcast on this
The Reply All podcast did an episode on this. One of the podcasters even went as far as microdosing himself to see if it really worked. It made for an interesting show:

(I don't work for Gimlet. I just thought that it was a good episode.)
