Seems to have re-invented folding ADCs
Everying old become new again when rediscovered. Here's an old patent from a former co-worker on an ADC that performs this analog adjustment bit-by-bit to create a flash ADC. https://www.google.us/patents/... The precision of such ADC's depend upon having deadly accurate 2^N analog values. If you can create a deadly accurate 2x amplification, you can cascade an series of identical stages to build an ADC.

Re:The Canadian law doesn't apply to these
Like those obnoxious
.com sites that only sell to North America.I live in the US and can say this is never going to change. The internet was not always international, and when it opened up to the public,
.com implicitly meant the US. There are still tons of Americans who don't know a .us ccTLD even exists, and no two registrants can share a 2nd level domain in .us. There is a .co.uk but .co.us belongs to the state of Colorodo, and only one person/entity can register something similar like .com.us, so sharing a 2nd-level TLD isn't an option without a middleman. In fact, 2nd level domain registration wasn't even allowed for the public at first, so sites like google.us couldn't exist. Google had to go with .com (Google could have made a case for .net, but back then, .net belonged to ISPs and the like and people didn't jump over to that TLD until we started running out of .com's). Once 2nd-level domain names in the .us TLD opened up to the public, a lot of sites that were already well established haven't bothered to register (or at least maintain) a .us domain because everybody already has their original .com address memorized (so for example, there is no amazon.us). Kind of circular problem, you see? Companies don't use .us because people don't know about it, and people don't know about it because nobody uses it. Not going to change anytime soon. -
www.google.us
1) When have you last used http://www.google.us? I ask because
.com is dedicated "Commercial entities (worldwide)".
2) True, but I read "U.S. holiday" all over the place and this does produce some anger. And on the winning side as well - Nothing pisses the brits or rushians more off as when US tells the world they saved the day.

Internationally controversal.
Because I am not a citicen of the US. Of course I don't case what google shows on http://www.google.us/ [1] but if the logo appears on http://www.google.de/ or http://www.google.ch/ I am pretty pissed (which day is it actually? - so I can check). I predict they get flamed big time if the logo shows on http://www.google.ru/ - the russians won't like it at all.
And then - last not least is http://www.google.com/ - which is [2] "Commercial entities (worldwide)" - notice the worldwide here?

Re:Can't access google.cn
Try google.us

working hard at separating the internet by country
its getting harder and harder to just access google.com from germany
they used to check your language preferences and redirect you to a localised version based on that. No prob, I removed all my language preferences.
Now they seem to be doing that based on my IP
They used to have a link to the main google page that would not redirect: http://www.google.com/ncr
That link does not work anymore (redirects to the country specific version)
http://www.google.us/ --> redirects to my country
by chance I now found that http://www.google.com/webhp still works without a redirect, but for how long?
Why cann't they just let ME decide which version I want to watch, the ones with all the new features or the one "customized" for the country i happen to connect from. -
Re:.de
I find it very ironic that if I go to http://www.google.us/ here in the states, I get redirected to http://www.google.com/.
If you were in a foreign country and went to .us, would you get double redirected? -
This one's not a flame...
Why wait for someone else to bring you broadband? Why not build it yourself? Get together with your neighbours and form a cooperative to bring in the line, then set up wifi repeaters with yagi antennas for the last mile.
Try googleing for terms like "rural 802.11 cooperative". -
It's happening, sort of.
Well, an SMS is probably too short (only 160 characters) to explain your scheme/scam in detail, so that might not be very useful.
But there have been reports of normal phone calls where money transfer offers have been made. See for example this newsgroup thread.

usa puts al-jazeera on its restricted list
The english version of the Al-Jazeera TV's website was online since Monday. The adress is:
http://english.aljazeera.netI could see it on Thursday and now it is gone. Washington Post has a article about a hack attack. Apparently the name of the website does not resolve.
What i found very suspicious are these imposter sites:
http://www.aljazeerah.us/ and http://www.aljazeerah.info/
Only the latter has a little headline that the website is not connected in any way to Al-Jazeera TV.These sites can be easily confused with the original site and it already happened.
Imagine something like foks.news in a arab country without a clear statement that it is not us media.ps: I already submitted the story about the imposter sites but slashdot did not post it. That's why i am posting it here...
