Re:What?
Well, it is explained already in the summary that the team did not want to talk about details before the article had been published.
The local newspaper has a video of the month-old baby by know, though, so I would say it is quite confirmed.

Re:Not "American fundamentalist moralism"
Mastercard, Visa, and PayPal allow purchases of these items every day the world over.
FYI PayPal recently closed a Swedish online retailers account for selling titles that contain words like sex and violence.

Re:What I care about
Speaking of burqas, here's a rather interesting example of social welfare benefit fraud from Gothenburg, Sweden from a couple of years back:
My translation:
A year ago SND Lärjedalen started a half year long course for ten Somali women with a concentration on hotel and housework related services. Eight women completed the course, which this spring was wound up with a meeting with a presumptive employeer, a cleaning company. The problem was only that three of the women, who during the course hade been completely normally dressed, came to the breaking-up dressed in completely covering clothing. The cleaning company stated that the three, due to their clothing, couldn't be employed.
Jörgen Larson is the unit director at the social welfare office in Hammarkullen.
-We understood it as the women made a clear statement, that they didn't want work, he says. Obviously you should be free to believe and dress how you want, but if you create a hindrance to employment, should you then be entitled to social welfare benefits? -
Re:FUD
Perhaps. But the story has been covered by every major Swedish newspaper the last few days.
Svenska Dagbladet
Dagens Nyheter
Göteborgsposten
SydsvenskanIt's the Chancellor of Justice that is being quoted...

It *was* a reimbursement (lost in translation)
It was a reimbursement coming from a company (a chain of stores) *that she had used her credit card with*. Only the company goofed

The bank says that she did not have to tell the bank about the error, but that (obviously) it would have been illegal for her to try to use it.
The money was there for 24 hours, but the bank is not giving her the interest. They say the money was "fictional", a technical error. She will however be getting an official excuse from the bank... that *would* make some fun reading.

Volvo has more urgent needs: quality control
Volvo first needs to do something about their quality control. About 50% of all V50 models sold last year had to go back to the shop for major repairs. If you read Swedish or know how to ask someone (Google, Altavista,
...) to translate it for you have a look at Dagens Nyheter or Göteborgs Posten. Roughly translated the salient bit goes like 'The worst car is the Volvo V50, every other car needs to be repaired in the first year in traffic' (Värsta bilen är Volvo V50, varannan tvingades akut till verkstaden under första året i trafik) and 'worst in these statistics is the Volvo V50 which spends on average 4.45 days per year in the workshop. Second worst is stablemate S60 with 4.26 days in the shop' (Värstingen i denna statistik är Volvo V50 som i genomsnitt har 4,45 verkstadsdagar. På andra plats kommer märkeskollegan S60 med 4,26 dagar på verkstaden). -
Re:If it was in Brazil...
I think it would. It's not as easy to sell a high tech gadget as some raw materials. With the rising price of copper worldwide I think there has been a definite increase in copper related heists everywhere. Even here in Sweden they steal copper roofings, power cables for trams and trains (for those who know swedish http://www.gp.se/gp/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=113&a=316
1 42 and http://www.nwt.se/ArticlePages/200704/05/200704050 55436_NWT825/20070405055436_NWT825.dbp.asp)
According to the last article copper cable fetches around $4/lbs here when you sell it to a junkyard. Fast transaction, jobs made by strapped for cash small time thiefs that has no real connections is what I'm guessing... wherever in the world it happens. -
Re:newspaper name
Actually, it should read "Göteborgs-Posten"
