"public" money and parenting
...paid for by public money...
You mean taxpayer money. Bush favors the government taking money from high income earners and using that money to police other people's kids.
The most disgusting aspect of this is that the Republicans claim to be for smaller government then propose a big-government "solution" to a problem that does not exist.
It still comes down to a matter of parents deciding to be responsible for their own children. The government has no place here. When asked the question about Internet content filtering, Gore and Bush should have both replied, "It's not the job of the government to decide what people's children should see and should not see. It is the job of the parents."
Which is what the candidate who is getting my vote believes.

Re:Your intentions are good...the point is, the government provides a lot of services. most of them are valuable. you may not like them or agree with their value, and you are free to express your dissenting opinion.
Let's see, the government(s) I live under take over 40% of what I "earn". (And that's a conservative estimate!)
They give part of that 40%, in the form of Food Stamps, to the lady across town who's too fat to work but still needs her daily 1/2 gallon ice cream fix (don't tell me it doesn't happen; I've been behind her in the grocery checkout line!)
Yeah, that's a valuable service!

Re:Why are these marked SECRET?
Didn't Pat Buccannan say he would get rid of the FBI if he's elected?
I don't know about Pat, but I bet Harry Browne of the Libertarian Party is willing to remove any federal agency. -
A better candidate, a better party.
Go read what Harry Browne, the likely Libertarian nominee has to say. I realize that many Slashdot readers have rather well-entrenched political views. But consider whether Browne's position and that of the Libertarian Party may be closer to where you stand than either of the two faces of the Incumbent Party.

Re:Abusing slashdot to push your political agenda?
Extremists who deserved it? Why don't we wake up and realize a choice between two idiots is not a choice. Us open source fans are supposedly for "freedom". Well why don't we not waste our vote and vote for the only party that is for freedom. The libertarian party. www.lp.org they are on the ballot for pres. The candidate is Harry Browne www.harrybrowne200.com The LP is the third largest party in the US has many elected officials in state and local Gov. Check em out before it is too late..

Re:What we need is a tax on Homosexuality
You are absolutely correct, sir!
Not that homosexuals are evil people, but that it is exactly this kind of slippery slope that our government is falling into.
It must be stopped, and it must be stopped now!
I'm voting for Browne -
What about the libertarian candidate
They didn't ask what Harry Browne thinks, but I bet I can guess. How are most slashdot readers planing to vote? Almost every geek I know is a libertarian, though many don't realize it..
