If I was making that much money, I wouldn't be complaining.

Not until you got your doctor bill. What most people don't realize is that being a professional athlete nearly destroys your body.

I worked breifly with Dave (Dan?) Dalby, a former guard for the Raiders. he was actually in good condition compared to his former co-workers. he could get dressed in the morning withou assistance because his knees weren't shot to hell. He could get up and stand in the mornings, where I remember watching 20/20 follow an old pro around and he had to crawl to the hallway with his hands to prop himself up to put his pants on.

Despite Dalby's great condition, he still had more doctor visits than you would dream of, and they were/are hella expensive.

Try making a few million a year for five years, then spend 3/4 of it on doctor bills in the following 10 (if you're frugal). See how much you have left, then wake up and be glad all you have to worry about is RCS and eye strain (for the amount of money you're getting).

I voted for Harry Browne. Some people told me, but that's taking a vote from Bush, and Gore will get elected! WRONG! If I wasn't allowed to vote for Browne, I wouldn't have voted for Bush, so he didn't loose or gain anything by my voting for the person that I think would best serve as President.

Maybe next time people will think about voting for who they want instead of who they don't want. If that does happen (unlikely), then we will see some serious change.

There used to be a time when nearly everyone could afford good health care. Sure, there weren't as many gadgets to use, but you get paid more than 50 cents per hour. Once the goverment started regulating doctors, hospitals, etc. Prices started going way up. Many people could no longer afford their own health care and the insurance companies started booming.

Now, some of you may say, "I don't want a doctor/hospital/etc that's not been through the requirements that the government piles on them." Then lets just have a non-required gov't licensing so we all have a choice.

The same goes for management positions.

I was an assistant manager before; and had all the guidance and help that anyone could ask for and it just wasn't something that I liked. In fact, I dreaded it after the initial honeymoon was over.

I have much more fun poking at software and finding bugs than I would in any of those positions (well training and marketing are fun too).

So, if you want to boot me because I love my job, fine, it's just another way for me to increase my salary more than any raise could.

The only other advice that I would add is that (if they won't let you hire a new manager) offer to work the position for two months if they hire someone in that time, and only one month if interviews haven't started in that time. In the meantime, flood the market with your resume.

Someone mentioned a average 5 month job search for people making $50,000. This is nonsense. I make that much and have gotten all of my jobs within two or three weeks. Considering the average stay at one location in this industry is 18 months, I've beat that too, so I'm not just taking the first offer that pops up. With the one/two month plan, you should be able to find something really nice.

Don't burn any bridges, but don't turn back either. Working for people that don't recognize your humanity is pointless.

It's an article about the independent report made by the Institute of Medicine as commisioned by the White House Drug Czar Barry McCaffrey. He initiated this on the pretense that it would finally show those Californians that there is no medicinal value to marijuana.

Not only did they find massive opposing data, but they also discovered that there is no such thing as a "gateway drug" (at least in the context of mj). Personally, it's much easier to argue that cigarettes are the "gateway". But then again, the same argument can be applied to breathing air, since 100% of all hard-core drug users first breathed air (that's the logic we're dealing with here).

Considering the stigmata associated from illegal drug use; how many people do you expect to come forward and admit it?

For some of the people you mentioned, those drugs were not deemed illegal during the decades of their reign; so there'd be no special reason to record or mention the fact. Speaking of facts, try these on for size: Carl Segan, while on his death bed, admitted to enjoying the use of marijuana and used it frequently for inspiration. George Washington recorded in his diary that he planted some "hemp" plants away from the rest of his crop near a creek bed, but was too late to remove the male plants. The only reason he'd want to remove the male plants is to grow bud! I don't know if you'd consider these two people to be enlightened, but considering how many people are in hiding (and the fact that at least one president and two presidential candidates have used illegal drugs); It's safe to say that quite a few of the enlightened people out there have had their share of Schedule 1 drugs.
