Did they spot the Hasselblads?
The Apollo moon missions also left behind 12 Hasselblad EDC cameras on the surface of the moon. The astronauts only brought back the film magazines.

Re:Not surprising
I have a Nikon D80 and it has a lot less noise than my friends Canon G9 which has more pixels.
What I really want is a wider range of sensitivity. Both higher sensitivity for photo in the dark, but also a lower sensitivity for some cases where I actually would like to have the blur of motion in bright sunlight.
For the latter cases there are of course filters available, so it's possible to work around it. But there is no way to improve the sensitivity the same way.
As for megapixel race - you can buy a 50 megapixel camera today if you like. It's just a question of money!
And then you can build an extreme camera yourself using a flatbed scanner.

Re:Hasselblads?Just take a look at the camera here.
So this news may not be the really latest news.

Re:150MPixels on 1"x1.5" = 35mm film
When you digitize, you play it safe and double that number to 400 dots/mm.
Doubling the resolution for digitizing the film is intended to make sure that every grain of the film is properly represented in the digitized version, not to scan every detail of the original subject. To get the same resolution as the 35mm film, the 200dots/mm would be sufficient, and therefore 34.56Mpixels should be as good as 35mm film gets. The Hasselblad H2D.39 is already better than this, along with a number of other medium format digital backs. Additionally, I suspect that the 35mm film in question is really slow, probably 25 ISO or less, since I can see film grain on Kodachrome 200 with a 'consumer' 2450dpi film scanner. -
Pfffffft - Girlie camera
Expensive??? At $800??? Do you hear me laugh? I laugh at your little girlie toy camera
:):). Now if you want a rather nice 39 MP medium format Hasselblad (H2D-39), B&H Video has one in stock right now for a bargain basement price of $29,994.95. I'm going to rush right over and pick one up before they run out. -
Re:Great for backups
Pictures will go upto 10 megapixels but it will stop there.
These guys would beg to differ with you:

39 megapixel $40k camera. y0w.
Consumer level cameras need to move to using larger CMOS/CCDs for a bit instead of working on pushing up the mpix though, I'll grant you that. Pausing at 10mpix to move the sensors up to a larger format would be a great idea, since we're rapidly approaching the point where you can cram in sensors too small to pick up the wavelengths of light they're grabbing. -
Re:Why Sony?
I would tend to agree with your statement, except Sony went with the respected Carl Zeiss lenses here. I mean, they are one of the most respected name in... oh wait, what was that? Carl Zeiss is now putting their lens on Nokia Camera Phones. If you want a good Zeiss, you're probably still going to have to go with a Hasselblad. Mmm... Hasselblad. 37 X 49 mm 22 megapixel CCD. 40 gigs of storage. Comes with an 80mm lens, but of course you can swap in for another. Two inch color preview screen. There's even a histograph display built in. DROOL. Might even be able to get good looking pictures of slashdotters with this thing.

Re:Duh
The sensor is just as important as the lens. I don't care if you lens comes from these guys. Unless you have a decent sensor on the end of it aswell, it's going to be just as crap as a bad lens on a good sensor.

Hasselblad, with a Kodak DCS back (and film!)I believe he's still go with Hasselblad for the camera, and use both the Kodak DCS16 megapixel back for it, for proofs, etc... but I suspect he's still shoot film after a quick change of the back.
Remember, he was one of the founders of f/64, the whole point of which was the revolutionary idea that Pictures should be tack sharp. (Quite unfashionable at the time)
He'd defintely have a very good scanner and printer, and a current workstation with Photoshop. He spent as much time in the darkroom as he did taking the photos in the first place. I suspect he'd be pulling out new detail from his exposures in the 1930s that nobody else could even see.
