    This is good work, but what is so special about it?

    Using image analysis, "computers" these days do:

    - Automatisation of drug discovery screening tests
    - Diagnosis of skin cancer
    - Detection of early breast cancers
    - All sorts of QA in assembly lines
    - And much much more, these are just examples you can find googling a bit.

    Why is this news? If you go to any computer vision, image analysis or pattern recognition conference, you'll find many similar applications.

    I'm fond of saying that the only thing more difficult than imagining a beginning or ending of time is imagining time with no beginning or ending. I think the same can be said of space and hence the universe itself.

    So was Kant. Read the "Antinomy of Pure Reason," especially the first and second antinomy.

    The thing I find funny about critics of string theory is their objection to the idea that there can be multiple dimensions beyond the three dimensions people can perceive. This is where philosophy and physics should intersect -- right at Kant, who pointed out that you cannot understand the world, only your perception of the world. Now, whether or not you agree with Kant, the point is that you, at least, shouldn't be limited by your perception of the universe. It seems plainly obvious that just because people can only perceive three dimensions, the universe certainly doesn't have to be contained by that premise.

    Far from getting people to agree with them, drive people away by these kind of tactics. Destruction of property is in no way justified unless you are one of those Utilitarian wackos instead of one us good Kantian folks .

    The environmental damage from the burning of the dealership is just the thing they are trying to prevent. Funny that they don't seem to recognize that.
