MOSIX
Well, everybody's talking about Beowulf, about High Availability. But nobody dares to talk about MOSIX, a Linux Kernel Module developed at an Israel University. It supports things like application-transparent adaptive load balancing, memory ushering and things like that. The only problem: not free up to now. But, wait! They are currently looking for a sponsor for maintainance and further development. This sponsor(s) may also choose the license, too. Check this one: MOSIX Homepage. Tried to post it to slashdot wo times before, but they didn't seem to like it

An open letter to the Mosix group.
Everyone:
Copy and send this to mosix@cs.huji.ac.il
Dear Sirs:
While I have no interest at this moment in pursuing load balanced clusters in linux, it is something that I believe is a powerful and useful addition to the linux computing environment.
As such I respectfully implore you to consider releasing the load balancing and process migration tools under the gpl.
While this is of prime political interest within the open source community, it would garner tremendous publicity and also aid you in providing a rich tool set.
Other similar efforts like Beowulf have made significant impact in the programming community and it would be a shame if your efforts, especially as they are research oriented , go unappreciated, since the research community at large cannot benefit from it. -
Violation of GPL:who's responsibility is it?
Wouldn't the fact that the MOSIX group, part of the Computer Science System Group of Hebrew University's Computer Science Institute, is located in Givat Ram, Jerusalem, Israel make it quite a bit more difficult to file a lawsuit? Regardless of the difficulties of the whole question of "who's responsibility it is", there is also the whole international <pause> thing.
