I miss the stars
Turd up or Turd down isn't really of any use to me.
If it's Turds down, I'll probably never bother even putting it in my queue.
Their recommendation system is at best, horribly broken. Anything below 92% appears to be just a wild guess at best, and a feeble attempt to draw traffic to something I have no interest in.
There are many other different web resources to scour Netflix for things worth watching, I use instantwatcher.com

Re:why does the summary suggest this is negative?
I suppose it depends on how you count it.
Netflix currently has about 300 original titles (depending on how you define original) according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Instant Watcher counts 5682 total Netflix titles. http://instantwatcher.com/sear...
Let's call it 5% -
Re:If Netflix
I agree.... 3rd party theme's would be awesome on Netflix also maybe 3rd party category tools/filters so you could install "Action Movie Extreme!!!" as a category and "Happy Halloween Super Slasher Flicks!!!"
The theme thing would be nice if I could just get a simple hack to disable that one "feature", and it's not about data usage for me. Although I have heard people complaining that it chews up data unnecessarily, so if your on a phone or your ISP has data caps it can cost money.
Give people a little of what they want and at a decent price is the best way to prevent piracy. Also listening to your customers is business 101
:(There are some 3rd party interfaces,
Here's the one I usually check with:
Way easier to search than clicking on my android tv's remote].
It was better before Netflix made their knee jerk Amy Schume "let's not have actual numeric ratings" change...

Better Search:
Netflix and Amazon searches....
I don't even bother with Netflix search, it could be so much better, and maybe even useful.

Try Instantwatcher
I use this once a month when they modify their content and add stuff to my watch list:

Re:Agreed
I don't search on netflix.I use http://instantwatcher.com/
mostly I follow new content - and it was better before netflix killed the "ageing out" content monitor - but if you can't quickly find something you want to watch on the site, then yeah, netflix isn't for you.
But for me? Buying used dvds and blurays and paying for netflix has been all I have been doing for years - altho - I will be signing up to amazon prime in a few weeks.
The Grand Tour featuring the Orangutan and his two pillocks will once again be the kings of the world, or wise men, or just entertaining bastards who are immensely entertaining.

Re:Show and movie list
7054 according to instantwatcher http://instantwatcher.com/sear...
I don't think it is in Netflix's interest to give you just any ol' sort.
Instant Watcher is one of the few third party sites that still has access to the Netflix content API. You can sort by most anything. -
Re:In other news
Stop helping, I knew all of that.
Then why did you say you didn't?
I didn't when I started the trial. Found out after. I also knew the content is more limited, but not HOW MUCH limited.
I just don't give a shit as a potential customer, and read it as "they don't want my money".
I bet you're miffed they want to charge you in the first place.
A netflix subscription is comparable to my cable tv bill. Maybe very slightly more expensive. It would be more convenient too if it would have actual movies to watch.
Except the lack of a content list on the netflix sites. That's their own idiocy.
Yea, I never understood that either. Here in the U.S. I go to Instantwatcher
It has full sort capability and I can even add shows to my queue from there. It is one of the few third-party sources available.
Used to be that Netflix had a public API that lots of sites pulled from to provide just what you're looking for. About a year ago they restricted that API for all but a few players, Instantwatcher being one of them. I have no idea why. I actually had and cancelled Netflex years ago because I couldn't navigate content. Instantwatcher made it easy and so I resubscribed.
I don't understand. That list should be available on their site. And that before you subscribe, so you know what you subscribe for. How do you Americans decide to pay for a service when you don't know what you're getting?

Re:Mixed feelings
I'm in the process of ripping my DVD collection to MKV format for a HTPC setup.
DVD43 & Handbrake for the job (Constant framerate in H.264 MKV format, RF:20). I'm running this off a script, so all I have to physically do is swap out DVD's, and everything else is done automagically.
Why mention this? Because if I wanted other language tracks or the Closed Captioning for the hearing impaired all I would have to do is change the script. It's already on most DVD's (95% I would gander, I have a few low-budget DVD collections of B&W B-movies, not sure those would have CC).
Netflix has the resources to do this on a massive scale, and only a limited selection on instant streaming ( http://instantwatcher.com/ ). I'm thinking Netflix is spending more money on the litigation than actually doing the darned work here.

Re:TL:DR
The thing I don't understand with Netflix is why the fucking PS3/360/Wii clients are so godawful. Why the hell do they not just give you a goddamned alphabetical list of everything they stream? Because it would be too easy for people to find what they really want to watch?
I refuse to watch Netflix on my Windows PC because fuck silverlight in it's stupid ass, but the arbitrary beshittedness of the console clients has me utterly perplexed because I can think of no reason why they would release a client like that in the first place. It's ridiculous that I have to use a 3rd party site to browse their offerings like someone that isn't only interested in shows related to the last goddamned thing they watched or some ridiculously specific categories ("Ooh, let's browse the 'heartwarming family films from the 80's' category, that's bound to have a wide selection to choose from for streaming!").

Re:All-Streaming is a Great Idea
For such a thing with Netflix, there's http://instantwatcher.com/. You can see new and noteworthy, browse by genre, etc, or go to the expiring soon section: http://instantwatcher.com/titles/expiring

Re:Streaming is already dicey...
Use Instantwatcher. It tells you exactly how many days are left before "good titles disappear from instant streaming."
-
I also have an opinion!
In essence, the service itself is friggin' great, so I wouldn't mind a price-hike in that respect. I think they should offer a discount for having both plans (e.g. $8 for DVD, or $8 for instant, but $14 for both).
I'm far more NERD RAGEd about the recent change to the web-interface for finding instant-view titles, or more specifically, the callous response by execs when the negative reception was brought to their attention. If it wasn't for the fact that they released their API, allowing services like http://instantwatcher.com/ I probably would've cancelled subscription for that.

Re:Netflix API
I use instantwatcher, which does use the API, so I never even noticed that there was a new interface.
