4'33"
If John Cage's copyright were expired now, they could have started their music collection with a much, much smaller budget...

Re:I can't help but think of this story:
And I'm very sorry for the Wikipedia link.
So you should be! As this is not Wikipedia, we are allowed to cite a primary source.
And it's a very apt comparison. An excellent story illustrating some fundamental problems with how sources work. It was also, I get the impression, an important inspiration for things like The Dumas Club and the prologue to The Name of the Rose.

Sean M. Burke knew this in 1998 =P
In the "Stupid QWERTY Tricks" section of his site, he lists all of the words that you can type on the left/right hand side of the keyboard...
http://interglacial.com/~sburke/pub/stupid_qwerty_tricks.html
He published all of that online in 1998...
(1998-09-21)In comparison, the longest Dvorak word, typed with only the left hand is: "upkeep"
...not that that has anything to do with the efficiency of Dvorak...The other Dvorak word lists are far more interesting:

Semantic & generated feeds
Aside from the RSS feeds of Slashdot and the main UK dailys, I like to read semantically or search engine generated feeds:
Delicious popular tag 'politics':
http://del.icio.us/rss/popular/politics
Delicious popular tag 'science':
http://del.icio.us/rss/popular/science
Google News search 'biodiesel', an endless stream of positive news:
http://news.google.co.uk/news?hl=en&ned=uk&q=biodiesel&ie=UTF-8&output=rss
I'm hoping that Delicious may eventually allow combinations of tags, e.g. popular uk+politics.
Plus a few other plain RSS feeds:
BBC Technology:

XKCD A webcomic of romance and math humor.

Re:Precedent
While I agree that those two items would be dumb, there will always be idiots, greedy people to try to make money however they can. IMO, it far worse for our legal system to uphold some "law" based on this type of corruption. If a silent music track can be copyrighted it is pretty sad IMO. Actualy, the lawyers for John Cage settled out of court for an undisclosed six-figure sum over copyright infringement of John Cage's 4'33" song wich is nothing but silence! So a bunch of dirt-bag lawyers won a six-figure sum for a bunch of silence!

Re:I'm waiting for missing track #17 - Silent nighGarcia said:
Brian, perhaps 17 - Silent night should just be a blank MP3 that goes on for 2:34. I think that one would be the most popular.
It would also be a Copyright Infringement of John Cage's most famous work

Re:Yay
In graphic design (including web) clear white space is a powerful tool.
In music (the silences are as important as the notes) or in theatre (dramatic pauses) - emptyness is powerful and just as important as words.
So the ideal web design would be a graphic equivilent of John Cages 4'33"?

Which Sean Burke?

Re:Research Validated
Humor me for a minute.
OK. I'll do it for 4' 33".
Does that mean you are not going to listen to John Cage play his composition? ..opposing views that introduce counter-evidence and new concepts) are modded down...cheers- raga
