Ideas, not numbers, matter
Yes, you could generate detailed demographics using some computer programs, but why bother? None of the players or their characters will have access to census data, nor will they be particularly interested in them.
Really interesting RPG settings, such as Glorantha and Tékumel shine because of the quality and depth of the ideas, not the complexity of the numbers. Take some advice from John Hughes:
Glorantha has a wonderful mix of three elements: an all-pervasive mythic structure, an elaborate and lovingly (co-) created history and culture, and a wacky sense of fun. Try to keep all three. Though vary the mix.

Re:Please enlighten me...
On "the features", This shows some. The hardware in this case is a 1987 design, with upgrades, but still the same motherboard.
In general, users find the system more user friendly than mainstream OS's. I acknowledge that Macs have superior speed, and displays. I just like (like Frankie) to do it "my way"!

Re:Why would you want to actually boot AmigaOS?
Actually, I use TVPaint and ImageFX mostly.
ImageFX is very PaintShop like!
This was assembled from four sections with ImageFX.

Re:Sphere.... with legs!
Boing-Sputnik
As already posted......

Why not Spherical?.......
Boing-Sputnik
The Boing-Sputnik POD design has it all! Round motherboard like the new iMac - Radical Radial drives - PSU at the apex, with enclosed drives underneath - and Cards plugged in at the base!
Both hemispheres open for access, leaving a disk on legs!
And with the colour scheme NO ONE can ignore what platform/OS it is!
(If YOU don't know, look up what platform was FIRST with double-sided 3½" Floppies, Consumer-multitasking, 12Bit Colour, and 4 Channel-Stereo Sound that went "Boing!" "Boing!")

Where?Where are you planning to set up?
If it's in a capital city, then there's heaps of competition. Every phone company has an ISP on the side (Telstra, iPrimus, Dingo Blue, etc.) So you'd better not be planning on competing with those sorts of people on price, because they've got good access to phone company equipment, and good economy of scale.
There are still some opportunities to set up in country towns; look at kisser, for example. If this is the sort of thing you're into, then you need to be looking to someone who is running such a service for advice.
As to equipment, you have three choices: UNIX, Microsoft, or easy-to-admin embedded boxes. (Cobalt are a good starting point for these.) OK, so I'm simplifying a little. My point is that you have to decide what you're most experienced with, and then keep it simple, stupid. Don't mix Windows and UNIX. Yes, they can be made to play nice, but no, you don't want to double your learning curve.
One of the really fun bits in Australia is dealing with the phone company. 56k modems, at the non-customer end, don't reside on the ISP's property; they reside in the phone company's local exchange. (One of my friends was bemoaning the loss of huge racks of modems covered in cool flashy lights that used to impress the hell out of visitors.) That means that you hae to deal with Telstra, and since they are still all but a monopoly (particularly here in W.A.), they aren't particularly interested in dealing with you. The result is likely to be a nightmare. I dumped my previous ISP simply because the dialup I was using sucked -- the modem at the phone company end couldn't hear me clearly, and my modem couldn't hear them clearly, and the result was dropped connections galore. Of course, if you want to stay down in 33.6k land, then you can put rack modems on your own premises (and you could probably pick up some cheap secondhand from other ISP's).

Re:The degree of utter BS on the web is astounding
Its not just Tigers, it sall great Cats that don't purr. Ist the construction of the voice box. Great Cats can growl but not purr, small cats can purr but not truely growl. in afct, this is the DEFINITION of Great Cat and small cat.
That "definition" you quote was formulated in 1916 and is not universally followed. Lions and many other big cats do purr, although they are only able to purr as they exhale so it's not quite the same as with smaller cats. Here are a few pages with details:
wav of Cheetah purr,
Big cats,
Lion,
Puma.
As for the research, it's a well known fact that injured cats purr (see, e.g. Encyclopaedia Britannica) so it's hardly suprising that it might have some beneficial effect. Here's a link to the original article this story is on.

Re:Runs on LinuxFirstly it's not Just your thoughts in fact their not thoughts at all, just a knee jerk reaction to the word Linux in an article. The word Linux doesn't even appear on the Frontpage blurb, you have to see the full posting.
Also if you bothered to go to the home page of the project you would have seen that it is an effort by a bunch of Linux enthusiasts to build a high-speed wireless network in some parts of Canberra.
So the mention of Linux down the bottom of the post is actually quite subttle. The article could have been titled Linux Enthusiasts Put Old Pay-TV Dishes To Use -- As A LAN as that's what it is really about.
Next to reply to Now if you're going to put up a tutorial on writing a driver for this dinky little device, or one of the "making-of" type pages; if you actually go to the link you'll see on the page the section:
Antenna designs
Jason Hecker has an excellent document on his helical antenna design.
Tony Langdon has design details for a high gain 2.4 GHz omnidirectional antenna. Look for the links that refer to a 2.4 GHz antenna.
Finnally if I look at the Frontpage of
/. at the time of posting, there are only 3 out of 23 stories that are directly Linux related and 2 others that are indirectly related. This is not quite the enviroment for rampant Oooh ooh they mentioned Linux, they must be l4m3rz!!!!!! Kill the pengiun!!!! rants -
