Re:Barry Hughart
Just as an aside - I agree that Karel Capek was a serious writer, but he's not a serious writer - I've seldom laughed the way I did at parts of War with the Newts and The Absolute at Large .

Karel apek and Mordecai Roshwald
It's terminally out of print, but it's worth checking out Level Seven by Mordecai Roshwald. It's set in an underground government base. The missiles fly, everything is shut down - and slowly, the top levels of the base stop responding, one by one. A downer, but one of the great classics of cold-war era nuclear apocalypse sci-fi.
On a lighter note, check out the novels of Karel apek, particularly The War of the Newts and The Absolute at Large. They're both humorous apocalypse stories - apek wrote largely between WW1 and WW2, and he has a really interesting take on the industrial acceleration of the time.
The Absolute at Large is back in print now, but a version based on the out of copyright first edition is available at http://davemayo.is-a-geek.org/projects.php#literary . Link is to my personal website - I'm the one who put together the edition. It's available in ePub (ASCII and Unicode) and mobi, although the mobi is just a conversion through Calibre. The text should be fairly good - I've gone through it several times, correcting it against the physical copy.

Re:I'd just like to see cross-compilation worked o
As for general issues with random packages messing up cross-compiling - yeah, it sucks. Your best bet is using a collection of patches and build scripts like OpenEmbedded, as you already do. Can't help you there if it doesn't work, but maybe you can try a different build environment like OpenWrt or ptxdist (though at least the latter is much smaller than OpenEmbedded)
The toolchain itself should be relatively easy, though. Have a look at crosstool-ng, it does the same thing as the original crosstool, but works with recent versions of gcc/glibc/binutils. Also, it has a really nice menuconfig interface.

Re:I hope NetBSD survives
>I still have a soft spot for NetBSD
Me too, for me it also was the first UNIX I installed (on a SparcStation2) and got to learn the command-line in a proper way (imho) and I could only recommend anyone willing to learn UNIX to start with NetBSD.
At this moment I still have one machine running NetBSD, a 33MHz Mac LC475 (yes, I'm aware it's 2006). The server can be found here: http://mark.is-a-geek.org/
>if necessary an active fork is made
Well, don't look any further than OpenBSD :D -
Re:How about a light cycles type game?
Remember the tron lightcycles? It wouldn't have to be realtime like the original, maybe just turn based with the goal of trapping your opponents in.
The real life version has been done -
Re:Here is their contact info
It's a suite number, there are other businesses in the building.
Not to say that anyone is actually there, but there it is.
One example
Daemon News appears to be based out of this building.
Interesting area. -

Here's a screenshot from my Win2k box - I'll get one from my FC2 box when I get home.

Re:I am not a "pirate"
I've never used WBL, but it looks quite interesting (this thread is the first mention of it I've seen) and I'm going to explore it, possibly switch over to it permanently. So I, too, would like to thank you for posting personally here, and as you and the parent to my post state, it looks like the person criticizing this as piracy has quite a few lacunae in his understanding of the open source world.

Re:GIMP is FREE
Hmm. The Gimp is free and there's a large demand for a Gimp-like program only with a good interface, but the developers refuse to budge?
You know, one can always fork the project and design a good interface.
