Can you even trademark this? Look in the...
Since when can you trademark a work as common as "illustrator" when applied to computer programs?
Seriously, I've seen many programs that are advertised as an "illustrator tool" or such.
I mean, look in the dictionary, it has 4 different definitions! Can you trademark all four uses for it? -
What do they firewall their country with?
The "Great Firewall of China" which blocks a lot of news sites but not porn sites. Do they use their tweaked out "Red"hat version to firewall the country?

Infinite Capturing
See the problem I see is that capturing the whole Internet's state would in itself trigger enough firewalls and write enough log lines that there would be more data created than actually recorded.
Can you imagine the bot downloading a firewall log that somehow became public and is being written to faster than the bot can record. And since its recording that log itself, its causing an infinite loop of new log lines being generated :)
DoS on the bot?

Re:Interesting... - Our kids will....
They will look back on the Internet in our day and be like "Wow, the Internet wasn't tame back then......... they used to have porn on
.com domains..... hackers ran rampant..... they had lots text and banners instead of AI inteligences talking to you..... They used simple credit card #s (sometimes unencrypted in transit.... often unencrypted on serverside in a database).... crackers would steal CC #s... hackers would be code g0ds writing ASM 24/6, taking one hour off for sex and food.... Microsoft ran the consumer world of consumers, fighting an uphill battle with technology that only fought back with source code...... and you could spoof packets back then!"
I would love to show my kids the Internet of today (when I have kids) so they can learn what to better the Internet of the future with.

Can you imagine a nano-virus that is polymorphic?
What happens if one of the nano dudes isn't built right or some rogue developer makes a polymorphic nano bot that can built itself differently and adapts to its environment..... reminds me of human kind.
We adapted by destroying other species.... We expanded into the territory of other species and let that species attack us, so we killed it.
I don't want these nanodudes in my backyard swimming in my pool and drilling into my dog's brain looking for inteligent life. Sorry nanobots aren't for me until I know they are safer.

Slashdot is repeating itself
Lately Slashdot has had quite a few stories run for a second time on the main page, is this going to become a trend? If so, I think I might just find my news somewhere else that ALWAYS brings news and fresh info on open source products.
I did like the story about the Minivend merger, I was looking for a good opensource application for e-commerce at the time so I didn't have to code my own in PHP4.

How much power will this thing suck?
I mean how will I supply a burner with enough power to burn actively when im taking photos? A burner usually suck up a lot of power, so how can they get this thing working good and portable?

Just because it is accepted doesn't mean it will..
be overturned. In appeals court it is often ruled to agree with the previous judgement, especially when it involves an anti-trust case.
Microsoft just wants to share all their APIs throughout the company and this is a way that they can delay and share confidential information with the new company.

Nuclear weapons aren't just bombs
Nuclear weaponry can be used for a lot more than the bombs that you've been taught ended the Pacific's WW II. You can build small nuclear devices that can be attached to vehicles and blown up remotely (hehe drive a truck into a terrorist camp and terrorize the terrorists).
Or you could build an atom-splitting ray-gun by using the alien technology recovered in the desert a few years before I was born... I bet that might help to win a war...... or start one (to keep the US economy 'booming')

Crypting / Splitting Data ? Why not?
Why don't the feds do this with their "secret nuclear data":
1) Crypt it with a nice proven encryption algorithm
2) Split it onto 3 drives, two containing data and then the third containing an xor.
3) Store all three drives in separate "secure" locations
4) Use video cameras with offsite video archiving to tape vault entries.
5) Store encryption keys in the 4th and 5th extremely 'secure' locations with multiple security teams and monitoring at each
This way, 2 drives must be stolen for data to be valid and decodable. 1 drive may be lost (We know the feds do that a lot). Encryption keys can become lost (at one location).
Data is safe from nuclear attack (unless 3 nukes are targetted at all three locations of data store or both locations of key storage).
Is this excessive or am I just paranoid? I know there are many more ideas to do in order to secure data, lets hear comments from the rest of /. !
(I know this will get moderated as a "Good Thing" (tm))

collaboration. We cannot just say, Open source is bad because it could mean a destructive thing in the future.
We adapt, if the future holds open source as the only way to go.... we will just adapt.... we've done if for the past 4 million years.

Students who take a stand!
Chaparral High School in Las Vegas is taking a stand against corruption. The students are now starting to organize a 'resistance' (as seen by school staff).
The website is quite interesting!
