    I think what happened was after the foundation complained that it couldn't find a suitable UK manufacturer they were approached by someone at the Sony contract manufacturing plant at Pencoed ( near Bridgend ) who had studied the board and calculated they could make it profitably at the foundation's target price.

    The Sony plant ( it used to be one of Europe's biggest TV plants ) takes on small production runs for third party designs. They had to introduce a new POP facility to manufacture the Pi there . There is quite a long article about the factory process here.

    That's a good thing isn't it? Outlook 2003 is an assault on the visual senses. There was a good OSS groupware comparison in a Welsh IT rag recently (see http://www.itwales.com/997890.htm). OSS groupware is not perfect but, like Word, the majority of staff use a fraction of Outlook's functionality. Scheduling meetings, invites etc. is all fine, even if you are paying for a MAPI plugin to work with Outlook (see Zimbra, OpenXchange, OpenGroupware et al.)

    Do they look like rock stars? No. More like 1980s rap stars. Who looks like rock stars then? Kernel hackers. OS hackers look like church music stars and hacker anthropologists look like movie stars. As you see, all of the hackers look like stars, but only kernel hackers look like rock stars, except those who look like sport stars.     Well well, the fates pervail.

    Remember this? That's what's coming to Linux. Here's a summary for those who haven't seen the video, and explains the environment better. Couple that with this or this environment. And you begin to see the future of working with Linux. Collaboration is the OSS way, and with such a foundation. Everyone will be able to participate. Programmers, and non alike.
