Re:No one at Apple listens to that Steve anymore
Found some interesting quotes from Wozniak related to apple and jobs.
He gave up a lot of his wealth, and even potential wealth to spend more time doing things he thought were more rewarding in other ways. So when he asks people to give up their share of the pie it's not a do as I say not as I do thing.

Re:My password
Here's two more "unique" glimpses into what kinds of passwords people use.
http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2009/02/another_passwor.htmlOh look another "unique" look at what passwords people use
http://blog.jimmyr.com/Password_analysis_of_databases_that_were_hacked_28_2009.phpThis site gets dumber and dumber every day. The Onion insults my intelligence far less often.

Re:Bank balance
Yeehaw. I done trolled the lake and caught me an audiophile.
All Nyqvist's theorem says is the if you sample a frequency F, any frequencies upto F/2 will be preserved. You make F big enough so that F/2 is outside the range of frequencies people can hear and you're good to go.
I dunno about you, but I'm pretty sure I don't want my hi fi emitting frequencies above 22-24khz which is N/2 for CDs and computer generated sounds.
I can't hear them - actually if you go here
http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/hearingloss.html ... you'll find you can't hear them either.Having spent some time in the same room as an ultrasonic PCB cleaner, I know I don't want to be around ultrasound.

Re:Youtube?
- Youtube can stream videos as "High Quality", which look a lot better than the default. More on High-Quality Youtube videos.
- There are many ways to download Youtube videos. Standalone programs, Greasemonkey scripts, Firefox addons. Though, I wish they would add a "download" button. But I doubt they will do that so they can keep attracting people back to their site.
- The codec that flash uses to play is playable outside of flash. The VLC player has the ability to play
.flv files. But you are correct that it is not a totally open-source format. It should also noted that some of the high-quality videos you download from Youtube will be H.264 (mp4) rather than FLV.

Re:civ4
A guy built the same thing out of a wii remote, a projector, and any surface is now a multi-touch screen. The only two parts lacking is the bluetooth, and the barcode scanners. http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/Touch_Screen_with_Wii_344_2007.php
With Projector small enough to fit in your pocket http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/13/new-pvpro-mini-projector-has-no-moving-parts/ There is no reason why any surface couldn't be a touch controlled projection. This isn't complicated stuff anymore. The only hard part left is fitting it all together.
Japanese cell phones do barcode readings to show additional ads about certain events.
How much more do you really think it takes? Proprietary windows only software? Most modern OS's can deal with multiple inputs already. it's just really hard to use two mice at the same time. -
Linux MCE on a Dell Ubuntu ..
How about Dell selling a Linux MCE Ubuntu box as a hi-spec multi-media center. They would literally fly off the shelves

bad teachers, not bad softwareFTFA: "It is effective to speak to a diagram, because it presents information in a different form. But it is not effective to speak the same words that are written, because it is putting too much load on the mind and decreases your ability to understand what is being presented." [Said John Sweller, from the university's faculty of education] I've noticed this a lot in my academic and professional life. The moment a person gets up with his shiny, animated powerpoint slides, and then proceeds to READ ALOUD the bullet points he's showing to me, I immediately mark him as an idiot. If you can't even rephrase yourself, then you don't have much of an idea of what you're talking about.
However, this guy isn't decrying the effectiveness of visual aids. We can thank Dimitry Martin for that proof (observe his visual aids when explaining the google/viacom spat: http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/Google_Youtube_Viacom_L awsuit_89_2007.php). The point is you must describe what people are seeing, not just "here's a picture of an apple!"
