This is New?
What's the difference between this and what Sprint Broadband has offered and already quit offering. And my ISP, JORSM Internet, has been working on supporting this for some time and believe do offer it to non residential customers already although there website don't say anything about it. Just thought it was wierd to hear about something on here that i knew existed for months.

KDE2 screenshots
Have a look at Mosfet's site to get a better idea of what KDE2 will be like, for those wondering!

Not just a web browser - and more screenshots
Konqueror isn't just a web browser, konq is what Microsoft's IE intergration/COM should be. Using the new Canossa(sp?) component API, I believe Konqueror is able to browse and/or render filesystems, samba shares, web pages, postscript, dvi, pdf, and plaintext. Given the rapid pace of development there's probably even one or two more by now.
What this topic should be is "khtml", KDE's html widget code which in this case is acting as a Konqueror component. Here's some more screenshots, displaying its current rendering ability...

KonquerorThe new version of Konqueror (seen here and here) will be supporting Java, has Corba based plugins, and can emulate (send a "brand name" browser string) to view websites that think they know better than the user. I also seem to remember something about javascript being supported, although I can't find a reference, and it may or may not be coming in KDE 2.0.
Corba plug ins let you view all sorts of images, PDFs, Postscipt files, as well as browse your local filesystem.
And yes, I know that it's for KDE, but KDE will run with both E and Gnome pretty compatibly.
As for the larger premise: My personal "killer app" that is keeping me in Windows is the lack of multi-head support for ATI cards. I use two to handle multimedia in and out on two monitors. I'm hoping that XFree 4.0 will allow me to use it (at that point, I'll also have to get my USB HP 895Cse printer working).
My point is that everybody has a whole different set of priorities. Not being able to see some websites is merely annoying to me. Having to reboot two or three times a day -- that's forgivable only when I trade it off for two monitors and multimedia i/o.

Now that I look closer at the logs, it looks like Microsoft was interested in the KDE Information we host too:

Ok, this mirror is good I swear.
Had to move around some IP's and make some DNS changes. Requests were going to the wrong server.

*REAL* theme support...In addition to the themes already available, check out KDE 2.0 Theme Information Centre. In particular see the screenshots for a preview of the widget theming support that should be available for KDE 2.0.

Slashdot policy on KDE suscks so bad! - Agreed
The last thing you can expect from Slashdot is being impartial.
But I must agree that posting this is really nasty. When creating an cartoonish figure like the KDE mascot, you'll always resemble similar figures so some extent. And dragons are very popular.
But exept for the colour, this 'Crock' doesn't look very much like the KDE dragon, and Stefan certainly didn't think of it. He may have thought of Tabaluga or Urmel from Augsburger Puppenkiste, which is very popular in German-speaking countries.
But IMHO the KDE dragon is still unique enough, and in particular it's an excellent piece of work.
As I've said posting this was nasty, as it degrades the work of the artist without giving him the possibility to comment on that.
I don't mind Rob posting "Gnome rules" statements all the time, but he should drop those "KDE sucks" ones.
Please report rather the newsworthy things about KDE and let people decide on their owm.
And yes, KDE themes stuff does matter! -
Slashdot policy on KDE suscks so bad!
Posted by Moritz Moeller - Herrmann:
I must say I am really annoyed with Slashdot!
While the site is very useful overall, some Editors seem to drive their personal agendas against KDE. Yes that's you CmdrTaco.
I personally submitted a story about the new theming KDE 2.0 / QT screenshots under this link. The themes are marvellous, linuxtoday and other impartial sites reported about them and Slashdot runs a quickie about a similarity between the unnamed KDE mascot and some Sony Playstation character?
I guess when Gnome finally releases it's first mail reader that can decode HTML mails it will become a Slashdot feature!
Please try to be more impartial and check out those screenshots. They are amazing and will convince every person of the technical merits of the great work of the KDE developers. I can't wait for the first Beta of KDE 2.0.
Thank you for reading this. -
Really Neat Thing Alert
Someone above pointed out that KDE themes are now just starting to materialize, and I thought a few more people should find out about it (at the risk of
/.ing somebody's website...). Before, KDE had interim theme support that let you customize the WM, background, and chose between Motif and Windoze widgets, but now it has real, GTK-style theme support. This had been a bit of an embarrassment to KDE evangelists. It still ain't easy to compile, but for now you can look at screenshots that seem to indicate that the whole theme thing is beginning to crystalize. They also show KOffice, which is even worse to compile but (supposedly) really works. And on the subject of KDE mascots, I think we need to find a name for the dragon. It should also appear in various places throughout KDE itself, maybe leaning against the window that pops up the first time you run it. And I think it would be neat if the rendered gears appeared instead of the cartoony ones in KFM, but they do look suspiciously WinNT-like (ever notice those wierd purple-and-green gears hanging out in the documentation)? -

And in other KDE news. The first version of the KDE style plugin interface (aka Theme support) has been released. You can find more information about it here.
