Re:Worth it
I don't know about most people, but if Time Warner went bankrupt tomorrow
Oh you would definitely notice. Do you have any idea how many publishers, movie studios, record laels, TV production companies, cable companies, etc. are "A Time Warner Company". Yes they all have varios different names so they can be marketed at different population segments in different ways, but they are all Time Warner.
No seriously. Here's a list of Time Warner holdings. Take some time to skim through it, then tell me again you wouldn't notice all of this disappearing.

Re:Did you know Reuters is parent of Yankee Group?
Hmm, someone thought I was trolling w/ that assertion. You won't find much reference to Reuters' Yankee Group majority stake (which they're currently trying to unload, according to BW) on their own site, but it is in the financial filings (not the usual 10Ks, as they're not US-based) and on ketupa.net, a site which tracks media conglomerates.

Re:/. sums it up nicely for oncehow ironic it would be to turn the DCMA against the rich people who are in power
Of course, you might ask, "who owns Corbis?"

Re:Disney is about culture--comcast isn't
In all likelihood, Comcast-Disney would do everything it could to maintain the Disney brand. Probably the most you would see change about the Disney-branded resorts and films would be an increase in advertising for Comcast services. On the other hand, Comcast could benefit greatly for its own services from controlling Disney, if it plays its cards right. Disney not only owns its own brand of television products (mainly the Disney Channel), but it also owns ABC (along with a couple dozen affiliates), ESPN, and partnership in other cable channels like A&E, The History Channel, and Lifetime. Comcast and Disney already share an interest in E! Entertainment. Picking up other related brands like Miramax and Touchstone could strengthen Comcast as well.
None of these brands will change, just the controlling entity would. I seriously doubt that they would make efforts to blur the lines as AOL/TW did, because there would be no benefit to doing so, especially when, as you say, the "Disney" name carries such weight with families. -
Re:Same stuff, some nice new effects....at least if you don't see Luxembourg as a province of Germany, but that's another story
Oh? And what is that "other" story then? If memory serves me right Luxembourg has been independent since 1831 (a year after Belgium). So take that back, Luxembourg *is* a country! It's not because it's small that it isn't one, because then to your standards The Netherlands couldn't be a country either: look at Germany, much bigger than The Netherlands. Historically Luxembourg would be more likely to be a Belgian of Netherlandish province anyway, or why do you think our flag looks like yours?
We are *not* Germans, and you caravan-carrying-hollandish-tourists should be lucky enough that we speak German to you, because if we really wanted we'd talk French (or Luxembourgish) instead and you'd be screwed! Ever been to a French camping in the summer? Well, I did, and the "oh 't is hier o gezellig" makes me sick. And above that you think that Heineken is good beer, pfff! Now for your link between SES Astra located in the Chateau de Betzdorf, and RTL Group is definately not true. SES-Astra carries more than just the signals of RTL-related channels. SES-Astra was created in 1985 and the predecessors of RTL were around since 1917. While it is true that RTL is "Luxembourgish based" nowadays, I think that can be said about any big company that has many mergers behind it. Don't forget that RTL originated from CTL which definately is Luxembourgish. There are many reasons for media companies to settle in Luxembourg and most of them are monetary (Tax, Filmmaking is highly subsidized here,...) If you didn't know: the only TV channel that can uses just "RTL" as logo is "RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg", which is the native-luxembourgish-speaking channel, all others have a suffix (like 4, TVI, television).
Oh, tv series that are shown on RTL4 (like "Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden", oh, I hate that show), are often shot in Luxembourg. It's happened to me that I crossed one of the actors in Luxembourg city.
