Re:I guess they will ban VCRs next?
Kodi as an open-source media platform
It's open-source, therefore it can be forked.
And according to Kodi, forks must be re-branded.The XBMC Foundation requires that all forks of Kodi/XBMC must be rebranded, unless otherwise granted permission from the XBMC Foundation. In other words, they cannot be called Kodi or XBMC, and may not include the Kodi or XBMC logos, graphics, or other trademarks.
So let Facebook ban Kodi. Then sit back and watch as they play whack-a-mole with the many compulsorily re-branded variations of the software.

the real question here.
and the question we're not supposed to ask is, does this thing run Kodi? because if it doesnt, I'll just stick to buying a used 4k TV and a Raspberry pi. https://kodi.wiki/view/FireTV_...

Re:Red is a Music Service? Nope.
...or you can run an ad blocker, use HookTube, or use the Kodi YouTube add-on.

Re:Anti-consumer
Anti-consumer, anti-choice cr@p like this is
...only going to get worse once the broadband providers get in on it.
What happened today? Google took their ball and went home, like a spoiled brat. So, sideload Kodi, and install the YouTube Add-on. Alternatively, (and less brain power required) skip the Starbucks habit for a few days and buy another streaming device. I can't imagine HDMI ports are a precious commodity, when a faux reproduction (it's emulator based) of a 26 year old gaming console is so popular, retailers can't keep it in stock.
In a post-net-neutrality tomorrow, it's only a matter of time before the broadband providers start taking sides in these content provider turf wars. You'll long for the days when the fix was quite so simple.

Re:Lots of competition
I just replaced my two Roku4 with NVIDIA Shield. I was switching from Plex (because Plex is creepy ) to Kodi and couldn't be happier. The Shield's hardware is extremely impressive, the UI is incredibly fast. It makes the Roku4 and Plex feel awful to use. Using a shared db with Kodi solved all my issues of tracking watched status between players. No cost, no accounts, no shady Plex business, a vastly superior device, a fantastic mobile app (again, at no cost) plus the flexibility and huge amount of Add-Ons available for Kodi. There's just no comparison. If you're still using Plex, I'd really consider looking at it. There are of course, like the OP pointed out, cheaper players as well.

Re: Oh, come on.
How about a proper link https://kodi.tv/download/849 and this https://mediaexperience.com/xb... and of course this http://kodi.wiki/view/Official.... I am sure most of you can do what ever you feel the need to do there in after.

Re:Can't change OpenELEC's default password
But Kodi security is a bad joke anyway. Any addon has full control, so powning any repository that autoupdates these addons with virtually zero security can lead to millions of devices infected pretty quickly.
So, yeah.
Only if you run a canned, lightweight Kodi distribution like LibreElec or OpenElec. You can easily setup Kodi with Fedora for example and it will use a local non-privileged user.

Please respect us
This seems to happen whenever an OSS project goes mainstream and someone decides they want to be "respected" by the evil jerks who created the situation that led to the OSS project being created in the first place. If they create addons with DRM they will have to be binary only and separate from KODI itself since KODI is GPL2. That said KODI even points you to forks should you dislike their new direction

Re:Honest question--no fanboy flaming please
Because since at least 2 years ago, "Kodibuntu is not supported anymore. Therefore Kodibuntu is not available anymore at the download page"?

Re:I wonder...
I'm not sure why you think that, but no. Here's the documentation
Each instance of Kodi will use the same database. Updates on one will show up on others regardless of whether or not they are running at the time of the update.

Kodi 17 on Chromebox
I've been running LibreELEC/Kodi pre-alpha nightly test builds by Milhouse on an Asus Celeron Chromebox.
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthrea...
http://kodi.wiki/view/chromebo...I'm very happy with the performance. I also have a Popcornhour C200. Kodi on the Chromebox runs circles around the Popcornhour.

Re:More important question: does it have systemd?
Sounds like a problem with Kodi.
Oh wait,
