Speaking of Journaled EXT2Check out this linux kernel list post by Stephen Tweedie:
"I expect to have publicly testable code for journaling over ext2fs in about 4 weeks or so."
Should be interesting eh?

Upgrade?
It was always a good idea to check out LinuxHQ and read the latest Changes to see if you need to upgrade. 2.2.4 had a TCP explot fixed.

2.2.5 changelist.

Hi, for those of you who don't know, you can snag the changelist at http://edge.linuxhq.com.

woops...addition to my previous messageI also meant to say that LinuxHQ usually has nice summaries of each version's updates.

Commercial Debian distributionsDebian would make such a nice base compared to Red Hat, yet there are a million RH derivatives out there, and no Debian derivatives (that I am aware of).
Check out LinuxHQ. The following distributions are derived from Debian:
- MNIS
- PingOO
- Eagle Linux m68k
- Prosa
- Debian-JP
- Linux-YeS
- DLite
- Floppix

Well, I finally got the original article
Thanks to someone who is quicker than I with HTML the original article is avalible.
Well, I am probably rather biased, but the article had a rather sarcastic flavor to it. I guess reading /. will do that. It is almost a joke!
I have gathered from the other replies I have read that the author of teh original article, one Ted Lewis, has in teh past been considered respectable. I agree that that article is a piece of garbage that is not even worth being used as toilet paper, even if printed on something nice and soft!
But I see only one alid point, the Linux kernel is getting rather large and the inflow of patches and code dose make it difficult for one person to organize everything.
But if you read patch summaries, easily found through http://www.linuxhq.com/ you will note that Linus isn't without help. Collecting of patches and source is done by other people, one being Alan Cox, who passes this on to Linus.
I belive that Linux will thrive, probably not take over, but thrive. The internet is becoming almost an ecosystem in itself and the fit will survive, and those with open source will evolve stronger than beasts that release only biniaries.
But this is only my opinion

So am I the first to get a compile error?

Note:
The patch described on this thread is not good. The REAL patch is on this site, as described on the linux-kernel mailing list.
Happy compilations!

Still buggered.
Report it to the list.
I did. And I've even got it back from linux-kernel, after the obligatory 2-day delay.
But there's no point trying to fix it - we just need to put the latest CVS code into 2.2.

Changes
I would assume the FAT32 was fixed.. I'm compiling now. LinuxHQ, (since edge.linuxhq.com is lagging) has a nice patch browser so you can at least see where things were changed.

SolutionThe
/proc stuff has been changed slightly which will require a new set of tools. Download the latest procps tools (1.2.8) Here.I strongly suggest that everyone also visit www.linuxhq.com and look at the CHANGES area under the 2.1.x kernel area. Upgrading to those packages will solve a lot of problems before they arise.
FWIW - I'm running 2.2.0pre2 at present, and the only complaint I have is that lockd seems to crap out and not let
/usr get unmounted on reboot. =(
