    berenddeboer writes "Slightly more than two weeks left to polish up your Eiffel application or library and submit it to the world-wide Eiffel 2003 contest, the infamous Eiffel Class Struggle. As previously reported here the closing date is October 31. You can use any Eiffel compiler such as the GNU Eiffel compiler SmartEiffel. The top cash prize is $1400 USD. Entries are judged according to 12 criteria by an international panel of judges."

    martial writes "The book 'Good Omens' is in the process to be adapted for the big screen. The book was reviewed on Slashdot before. The book was written by Terry Pratchett (Discworld) and Neil Gaiman and speaks about the apocalypse in a pretty funny way. For the movie version, little is known other than Terry Gilliam (Monty Python member and director of 12 Monkeys and Brazil) is going to be the director. The information about the movie is available at the Internet Movie Database." Until this goes into something other than pre-production, it is a rumor and should be treated as such.

    Zooko writes " Eiffel, an object oriented programming language, has been getting some good press as an alternative to Java. Today, Interactive Software Engineering, a maker of Eiffel development tools, announced the availability of the latest version of their software for Windows and Linux.

    It is nice to see serious support of Linux by a commercial software company. Bertrand Meyer of ISE (and also noted object oriented guru) says: "Linux has been very good to us, and I hope we have been good to Linux too. It's one of our most important commercial platforms. And it's our #1 or #2 development platforms (#2 by a short distance from Windows if you count the number of machines, #1 if you ask developers what they want to develop on...)".
