No one mentioned Okami yet? Or ICO ?
The PS2 game Okami (which is being ported to Wii for next year) was filled with excellent music, among the best I've ever heard in a videogame... here are examples:

The ending of ICO had some of the best music I've ever heard in a videogame:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DIx3W6gmgs (damn, listen to the whole thing!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FQ-0vqHAro You Were There
Shadow of the Colossus also had a fantastic orchestral soundtrack:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4UvBI9vADc (Intro Cutscene)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diOVyUj_xe4 (Battle 4)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i_FxqyW2PE (Colossal Requiem)

Among my other favorites are the soundtrack of Hitman 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
At home I have a lot of SNES rips which I listen to sometimes, Chrono Trigger and Seiken Densetsu 3 are the most memorable examples I can think of, but there was lots of good music in that console era. -
Re:OT: SYS 49152
further to my previous reply the entire memory map can be seen here with 49152 being described as the start of "upper ram area" ($c000)
further googling also revealed this curiosity! -

Demoscene - Music, Gfx, DEMOS!
Demoscene - Music, Gfx, DEMOS!
The largest computer artforms is the demo. These demos are music and gfx wrapped into a small package.
There are contests around the world called "Demo Partys" which give awards on best gfx, best music, best demos in sizes (64K,etc), 1 hour to compose tunes with a set of samples, best mp3, best Gfx, most genuine.
Many of these artists and musicians are working in the game industry or entertainment industry. Many of the older 64/apple/amiga game musicians are working for the largest game companies, creating tunes for your games you play today.
Assembly - The largest Demo party in the world
OrangeJuice - Demoscene information center
Google demo directory.
Nectarine - 100% scene music radio!
Crystal Melon - Famous cracktros (minidemos) many converted to Shockwave so people can view them. (They were on a c64 and Amiga!)
If you interested in video game, demo music, mods (4 channel) music, is like a midi with the wave files included.

The hell with RIAA - buy from the artists
The hell with the RIAA!
Make every effort to contact the artists you prefer, tell them you would prefer to be able to aquire their music directly from them. The more artists see that the masses would rather get the music from them and more than likely pay less then what they pay for CD's now.
I support at least one musician in this manner. He gives out some of his stuff as MP3's for free download at MP3.com and I buy his CD's direct from him! NO RIAA inbetween! He gets ALL the money.
Check out Bjorn Lynne Here and his other pseudonim Divinorum. Some may know him as Dr. Awsome!
Also Show the RIAA that downloading MP3's is a good "Try before you buy" program. If you download and like the music, please buy the artists CD. This way part of the RIAA's reasoning that this is all about theft starts to dry up.

Re:War is coming! - Use Non-Violence!
There is one thing I am fairly sure of though: DeCSS is the tip of the iceberg. Those hackers who have the knowledge, skill and motivation will ceate software that will ignore watermarks and cut through "copy protection devices". Maybe this time
it will be anonymously as well as open source. What the industry execs fear will come to pass despite anything they can do.
Well the "hackers" have already written software that defeats the "mediavision" copy protection.
What these stupid companies do not understand is that no matter how smart you think you are, there is ALWAYS someone that is smarter. Copy protections have always been cracked. Heck companies thought that dongle protection was great. Yeah right! anyone with just a hinge of electronics knowledge can duplicate those stupid dongles!
What the MPAA AND the RIAA have to grasp is that if they don't get their head out of their a$$es they will get left way behind, lawsuits or no lawsuits. What they will find will happen is people will get so sick and tired of their cr*p and just start mass posting any and every piece of music they can find and every and any movie they can get their hands on and mass post them on the internet. The only option for the MPAA/RIAA will be to then try and shut down the internet.
Personnally I would say the best thing to do is DO NOT buy anything that comes through the MPAA/RIAA. Boycott. If it hurts the artists, so be it! Get the message out to the artists that the time has come for the MPAA/RIAA to close their doors. I believe that the time has come for direct support of the artists. I do this already with one artist (Bjorn Lynne AKA Dr. Awsome for you Amiga freaks out there.) He produces and distributes is music on his own without the need for the recording industy. I am willing to pay $20 for a cd from him because 1) he is incurring all the costs of production, copying and distribution of his CD's 2) he gets EVERY dime! Nothing goes to the RIAA! He even gives out free samples of his music in MP3 format. As well as having contests and gives out copies of his CD's to winners. How many artists aligned with the RIAA give out their CD's on a weekly basis to their fans? I would encourage everyone to seek out artists like this and support them (if you like their music). Don't mp3 up their music and give it out. Show artists that they can make a decent living doing it on their own without the RIAA or the MPAA. -
Dr Awesome
For me, it's got to be some Bjorn "Dr Awesome" Lynne. I grew up listening to his
.mod music, and have progressed onto his space / fantasy music CDs. Definitely a must for ex-Amiga users who used to like Crusaders demos. Check out www.lynnemusic.com
