Re:The Weakest Link
It's all supply vs demand. The US keeps the supply very tight. So as the demand continues to remain constant or rise (well, after the 1980's peak), a cut in supply will always raise the price.
It's that much easier when your clients *have* to have the product. It's almost like they're addicted or something.
:)There are other questions on this. How involved is the US Gov't with drug smuggling into the US?
Cocaine One
ATF drug/gun scandal
Air America(I hate linking to Wikipedia, but if you're unfamiliar with those topics, it should be a good starting point for you. They are a few of many examples.)
It's actually a very elegant plan, with guaranteed success. Companies insulated from direct government involvement deal with the aspects of illegal drugs, from production, to wholesale distribution. From the wholesale distribution point on, it's handled by shady characters who already know their life is on the line if they sell out someone up the chain. It's a cash only business where almost no one keeps books on it, and they definitely don't file their taxes.
If you had the power of the federal government, and you know that increased taxation is political suicide, what better way to make money. Of course, we hear about the guy with 10 kilos getting caught in an airport. Once in a while you'll hear about a big shipment getting caught too. That's the competition. Well, sometimes their own, but with no direct ties. It drives the prices up (oh no, a shipment was seized), and keeps the competition marginalized. Drug enforcement deals with (relatively) smaller groups, to ensure the big company (gov't) continues amazing profits. Those profits are off the books, out of public view, out of congressional oversight, and can finance anything you can imagine.
Since the money has no trail, there isn't a distinct trail left for whatever covert (or covert-ish) operation they want to do. Of course, if anyone gets out of line, we've armed various domestic branches of the government to the teeth. All they have to do is name a reason. Illegal immigrants? Call ICE. Could be terrorists? Call DHS. Competition that we haven't managed to eliminate? Call the IRS. The IRS won't show up with a combat team, but if necessary, they'll show up with plenty of other gun toting agencies. That is, if they want to get so involved. Gangland style shootings, or IRA style bombings are very effective, and can have investigations going towards lots of dead ends. "The M.O. indicates it was the Red Gang". Investingating them won't turn up anything. "Maybe their competition, the Blue Gang did it". Nope, nothing there either. Why? Because it's simple enough for anyone with enough information to replicate any crime, especially with a big enough budget. Your entire suspect pool will be shown to be innocent (or jailed unjustly), because the real suspect has no ties to that area.
Does this give you a new view on Central and South American US operations since at least the 1980's? Why would we send troops to bust a drug dealer on another continent? Because we "think of the children"? ha. Children are little more than future consumers and future tax payers.
So yes, the "War on Terrorism" and the "War on Drugs" are government theater, carved out of the same script. Unfortunately for the players, all the weapons have real bullets, and the tragic ending isn't followed with a bow and curtain close.
It doesn't take a tin-foil hat to see these kinds of things. I am well grounded in reality. There are plenty of tin-foil hat wearing folks who could expand on this, probably including bigfoot and aliens.

As for the US border, expect to see a huge roll out of face, cell phone data and optical character recognition systems deep into the USA on all public roads.
Your car might make it over, but your face will be recorded. You can change cars, papers, times, but over time a database will try and build some face based watch list for people who make repeated trips .....
Is the driver new to the US, looking stressed, been seen before on back roads .... next "random" Border Patrol interior checkpoint, expect a "random" Border Patrol check - somewhere within 100-miles of the US land and coastal borders is legal. -
Re:In others news ....
I think you have wrong three letter agency.
Google for some of the following, and you'll find the answers.
Cocaine flight crashes in Yucatan (2007)
Herion, Opium, etc (1960's on)
If you're going to run black ops mission with operations off the books, that budget has to come from somewhere. It's not to say that it's all bad, they get lots of things done, that wouldn't generally be approved of by the public, but are necessary evils.

Coincidence Theorist's Guide to 9/11
That governments have permitted terrorist acts against their own people, and have even themselves been perpetrators in order to find strategic advantage is quite likely true, but this is the United States we're talking about.
That intelligence agencies, financiers, terrorists and narco-criminals have a long history together is well established, but the Nugan Hand Bank, BCCI, Banco Ambrosiano, the P2 Lodge, the CIA/Mafia anti-Castro/Kennedy alliance, Iran/Contra and the rest were a long time ago, so thereâ(TM)s no need to rehash all that. That was then, this is now!
That Jonathan Bushâ(TM)s Riggs Bank has been found guilty of laundering terrorist funds and fined a US-record $25 million must embarrass his nephew George, but it's still no justification for leaping to paranoid conclusions.
That George Bush's brother Marvin sat on the board of the Kuwaiti-owned company which provided electronic security to the World Trade Centre, Dulles Airport and United Airlines means nothing more than you must admit those Bush boys have done alright for themselves.
That George Bush found success as a businessman only after the investment of Osamaâ(TM)s brother Salem and reputed al Qaeda financier Khalid bin Mahfouz is just one of those things - one of those crazy things.
That Osama bin Laden is known to have been an asset of US foreign policy in no way implies he still is.
That al Qaeda was active in the Balkan conflict, fighting on the same side as the US as recently as 1999, while the US protected its cells, is merely one of history's little aberrations.
The claims of Michael Springman, State Department veteran of the Jeddah visa bureau, that the CIA ran the office and issued visas to al Qaeda members so they could receive training in the United States, sound like the sour grapes of someone who was fired for making such wild accusations.
That one of George Bush's first acts as President, in January 2001, was to end the two-year deployment of attack submarines which were positioned within striking distance of al Qaeda's Afghanistan camps, even as the group's guilt for the Cole bombing was established, proves that a transition from one administration to the next is never an easy task.
That so many influential figures in and close to the Bush White House had expressed, just a year before the attacks, the need for a "new Pearl Harbo -
Re:Several things strange here
A conspiracy theory is a theory that relies on the existence of a conspiracy to keep it quiet.
Eh? Keep what quiet? The theorising or the criminality of the event?
And not one of these people would gladly go to the press to guarantee their name going down in history as the one who blew the lid off the conspiracy?
Rather than talk of a conspiracy, the parent had the good sense to reference organised propaganda efforts that receive a lot of investment. Awareness of these should be mandatory; here in the UK we had the discovery of IRD to illuminate this murky area a little. At least you have an FOIA act that works.
Or wait, the media is in on it too! See the problem with suggesting conspiracies? Either everyone is in on it, or the people in on it at are the best liars and deceivers known to mankind.
Great little bit of black-and-white thinking, and of pushing words into the parent's mouth. Yes people are difficult to predict and control, er, unless they have some immense disadvantage placed on behaviour that steps out of line. There are oodles of testimonies from insiders about how controlled the news media is. Amazon is your friend.
I, personally, doubt that such a large-scale event could be pulled off without some mistake or someone defecting and offering proof to the media.
I haven't a damn clue how it happened, but the whole mess stinks to high heaven. You only have to read Dan Hopsicker's work to see that much. A lot more than what we're aware of surrounds 9/11 - certainly a lot more than most people, myself included, are comfortable with.

An American turbo-prop airplane went down in Venezuela last month, the second such incident in the past 45 days, the MadCowMorningNews has learned.
After making an emergency landing at the International Airport José Tadeo Monagas in Maturin, Venezuela, the pilot and co-pilot of the American-registered twin-engine Piper Cheyenne (N395CA) bailed out of the plane, leaving it sitting in the middle of a runway as they sprinted for the airport fence. Onboard were 28 suitcases stuffed with 700 kilos of cocaine, and 14 empty cans of fuel. The busted drug flight joined a second American plane, also suspected of drug trafficking, and registered to a Houston firm widely thought to serve as a front to hide CIA planes, which was involved in a fiery crash near Caracas on April 28 that made international headlines.
One of the dead passengers onboard was revealed to be Alfredo Anzola, a 34-year old software engineer for a controversial Chavez-connected election company whose election code remains embedded in thousands of electronic voting machines in the U.S.
The Guyanese pilot implicated by a former Customs agent as part of a ring of corrupt Customs officials being investigated by the Dept. of Homeland Security was in the news again recently as part of another scandal, this time in his native Guyana.
Michael Francis Brassington, whose name is a footnote in the 9/11 investigation, was named in a procurement scandal over the disputed purchase by the Guyana Defense Forces of two antique 30-year old helicopters from a 'dummy' company in Delaware that sounds suspiciously like a front for the CIA, the ironically-named "Global X Group".
While researching pilot Brassington's involvement in the Guyana scandal, we were astonished to discover that Brassington's father (also named Michael Brassington) has close business ties with one of the most notorious oligarchs in the Russian Mob, Oleg Deripaska, the "last man standing" in the brutal Aluminum Wars in Russia during the 1990's for control of that strategic resource.
This information is important to a full understanding of the 9/11 attack. Brassington's name surfaced in connection with 9/11 because he had been the co-pilot on the drug-running Lear jet (N351WB) owned by Wallace J. Hilliard (right). Hilliard also--and not coincidentally--owned the Venice FL flight school where Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi were at the time learning to fly.

An open letter to Hillary Clinton
Greetings Senator,
Let me start by saying I hate you very, very much. I dispise your policies and your politics. That being said, I implore you to take my vote for the presidential canditacy of 2004.
To shake up the powers that be, I feel, is the only way we can truly seperate ourselves as not a democracy, but the constitutional republic that we happen to be, from the corporate global new world order that is most likely inevitable.
Sure, you will probably continue down the path of the PNAC agenda, and sure hundreds of thousands will probably die in the wake of cleaning up from the party(ies) of the fudamementalist extremists in Washington, those hiding in caves, and those who are just watching the numbers as our future is being gambled away, not unlike a horse race, where there is only the "old-school" trainers allowed to practice the 1/2 mile sprint.
I understand that your allegence is to the money-men and in order to achieve those goals you probably will pimp out our country to whatever the ghosts of Orwell tell you to to; that will make us safer from the evil, evil boogeyman called "_blank".
Even though those with any rational views of reality will tell you that the chances of a US citizen being killed by a "terrorist attack" on American soil is LESS likely than being struck by lightning, or slipping in our own bathtubs, or an automobile fatality, We as Americans are your sheep, and we apperently do as we are told.
We, as Americans, have grown to love war instead of peace, slavery instead of freedom, and ignorance instead of stregnth.
We have grown to accept that it really doesn't matter who gets elected next year, considering 1.) Diebold 2.) That all candidates have a close relationship to the CFR 3.) That the foreign policy of creating a "hornets nest of unrest" in the muslim world is a strategic advantage of perpetuation for any think tank that claims to act under the notion of National Security.
There are many of us that do understand what is going on, and feel more helpless when CIA printed document surface in "al-Qaeda" madresses, indoctrinating the youth to hate Jews and Americans, while these same "intelligence assets" help us win "jihads" in the Soviet Union and in the Balkans.
We understand that You have won. We understand that there will be no real change. We pretend to understand that bombing people will make them love us.
What we don't understand is why you let them win. Your husband did his share to arm al-Qaeda in Kosovo, just as the Bush regime set up Ansar al-Islam to act as "al-Qaeda instigators" in Iraq.
Just as Mohammed Atta worked for an "elite US/German government exchange program" and was trained by very suspicious "flight schools", and over 1/4 of the 9-11 hijackers were trained at secure US military facilities.
We know the score. The sheeple are staring to awake to the agenda of the Project for a New American Century.
This is the part of the play where you step up to the plate, make empty promises, take back this country, because then, and only then, will the American-hating neo-conservatives have something to complain about; how they would have made it all worse.
cheers - valis

Foreigners keeping U.S. elections secret?
According to the article, the company that manufactures the machines is Sequoia Voting Systems Inc., who have been in the Florida papers for having a VP who has been indicted in an elections kickback scandal in Louisiana. You must read this URLon the subject!
Further research on the web suggests that an unwholesome number of people involved in selling election services and products have, not backgrounds in (say) accounting, but instead, backgrounds in (you guessed it) politics.
According to a St. Petersburg Times article:
"New York safemaker Jacob H. Myers invented a mechanical voting machine in 1892 and his company later became Automatic Voting Machines, which Sequoia acquired in 1984.
"[Sequoia is the] only company whose touch screen product has been successfully tested in an actual election in a large county -- the 2000 general election in Riverside County, Calif.
"[Sequoia] has installed other older systems in three Florida counties. Sales are down 90 percent after the 2000 election as local officials await federal funding before buying new equipment.
Sequoia is a subsidiary of Jefferson Smurfit Group, a leading manufacturer of paper products."
Jefferson Smurfit, who in reality only owns 15% of Sequoia, is primarily a manufacturer of paper and packing products, based in Ireland.
The remaining 85% of the company is owned by De La Rue of Hampshire, England, an enormous company of 7000+ employees with a background in secure printing (providing paper for over 150 national currencies, including of course the UK) and a strong interest (20%) in Camelot, the operator of the British lottery.
Other than not seeming to take their security as seriously as they ought to, DLAR seems like a squeaky-clean company, and probably has a bright future. Especially if they can keep U.S. elections secret from the population.
