So there is no need for special core catchers? "The two reactors of the Chinese Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant are the only working nuclear reactors with core catchers." Corium can easily burn through concrete.
Sorry, but you can't just rush over it by saying "Yes, I know it's Cato". The Cato Institute is a neo-liberal/neo-conservative "think tank" and lobby group. Of course they're trying to attack Naomi Klein: "Since 2002, the Cato Institute has awarded the Milton Friedman Prize".
Hint: federal money for large companies to rebuild it every couple of years. War is not the only catastrophic event where "Halliburton & Co." can make big bucks.
If space is your concern, think about the square miles needed to permanently store the nuclear waste. Uranium also doesn't grow on trees, you know? The power plant that you can see four miles from your house is just a tiny part of the whole complex.
Ruby (maybe Python) is one of the last 'frustrating' and 'discouraging' languages out there. To make it even more interesting, give him Qt to play with. With Ruby/Qt or PyQt you can open up a window in just a couple of lines. Even 3D stuff can be done with that combination and that keeps him entertained for quite a while. Bonus: object oriented programming from the beginning.
I guess it makes a difference if you're walking or driving. On the other hand, I 'lost' my laptop several times in various bars/clubs after a couple of afterwork drinks. Fortunately, I always managed to get it back.
Big distributions as kubuntu and opensuse offer kde4.0 as a default choice. Not because they don't understand 4.0 isn't ready, but because the demand is there.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd say that this is clearly the fault of the distributions.
Consistent UI appearance - It's true that Qt, GTK etc. based applications look different. But so do OS X applications where you have the white style, this brushed metal style and another one which escapes me right now.
I guess this will be used at the airports for anti-terror purposes. Ask the traveler some questions and measure the tremolo in the voice to figure out if he's nervous.
For those of you interested in a dark color scheme for Eclipse/Aptana/RadRails (for Ruby on Rails development), here it is. Another one can be found here.
I've created a social bookmarking site for Open Source tipps, tricks and howtos. I'm thinking about adding a news section, since the former tech news site digg.com became a picture sharing site.:)
HowFlow is about seven weeks old, but I'm getting great feedback from its users. It has some very unique features, like an intelligent pastebin that tries to find a solution for pasted error messages and so on.
You can subscribe to several feeds: upcoming or published tricks and so called 'tag feeds'. The site is non-commercial, there is only one little open-source related ad on it.
Jesus... No wonder, there is no link to the website in the summary. That's it, Slashdot. After so many years I'm done with you.

Check out FWBuilder. Anything beyond that concept would be overkill and extremely error-prone.
One word: BackupPC.
Screenshot Digg it, if you want.
That means that I don't have to set my alarm clock this evening?
Preventing Paranoia: When does Google Chrome talk to Google.com?. Please read it carefully.

Make sure to read Naomi Kleins book "The Shock Doctrine" or at least one of her online articles: The Shock Doctrine in Action in New Orleans.

Even more FUD.
Keep a copy of the original file and make a diff. Am I missing something?
Follow the link in that trick. Basically, Microsoft tried to make ACPI as incompatible as possible.
The title of this trick is misleading. It should solve those problems by pretending to be Windows to the BIOS.

... and expected an article about a beach club in Barcelona.
Clever, but takes some time:
1. make randconfig
2. Compile, install and boot the kernel
3. If your system doesn't boot or lacks a driver, goto 1.

That's true.
