What it takes
An official 13% unemployment rate, which means something north of 17% real unemployment. Crashing property values and utterly blighted urban areas. That's what it takes to get voters to finally shed the leftists and elect people who are willing to spend some time thinking about what must be done to achieve some level of prosperity.
The only saving grace that state has had is a constitutional requirement, established by adults long ago, to balance the budget; at least they can attempt to recover without stupid amounts of debt. Hopefully the new boss will still be in power when all the 'unfunded' public sector union bennies finally come due; a big haircut is needed and it would be great if the powers that be failed to kowtow.
Dear MI, keep it up another 10 years to prove this isn't a fluke and I'll move back. Till then, rot in hell.

Re:Only game in town and ...
Detroit is b-r-o-k-e, broke.
They sold their water and sewer system to a neighboring county because they couldn't afford to operate it. There is consideration being given to filing Chapter 9 bankruptcy. The mayor has seriously proposed bulldozing a quarter of the city. Detroit can't afford to build anything. And, IMO, a company would be nuts to put any significant money into infrastructure in that environment.

except when the "responsible authority" sucks
http://michiganmessenger.com/36610/arrest-of-most-wanted-sex-offender-raises-policy-questions
in a nutshell: lansing michigan got a $900,000 federal grant to monitor sex offenders. but a journalist, spending five minutes using google and facebook, found an offender working at a daycare center... an offender on the Michigan State Police's most-wanted fugitives list! and someone the lansing police describe as "always one step ahead of us"... since 2007. the fucking pedo is posting on facebook with his real name and picture... posing with children on his fucking lap, working at a fucking daycare center
seriously?!
the only justice that exists in this particular case is vigilante justice. and i agree with you: vigilante justice sucks. however, vigilante justice is better than NO justice
therefore, it is nice to know vigilante justice is out there to pick up the slack, for when the responsible authorities are outright BUMBLING INCOMPETENTS who never heard of google search and waste NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND of our tax dollars... doing what exactly?
put it this way: the responsible authorities better do their fucking jobs, or we'll do it for them

Re:Mormons...
Surely you wouldn't be referring to Gov. Mitt Romney, would you?

Another trick
Another one to be aware of is Michigan Republicans using lists of foreclosures in the precinct and challenging a voters eligibility to vote based on that list. NPR Story, Michigan Messenger Story.
If you're concerned about this, look up your states Voter Eligibility and Identification Requirements on a state.XX.us website. Print out a copy and bring them with you. If you're challenged, challenge them right back and stand up for fellow citizens around you who are being unfairly challenged.

Re:Actually I did post links but you ignored them
No, either you're misunderstanding or I'm not being clear. (Or I'm misunderstanding you). The first amendment does apply to them; what they did violated both the law and the constitution. There is discrimination against Christians, and when it does happen it's bad; see also a reference to an apparent bible club case, and a situation involving a wrestling coach and his assistant. I just don't think the cluelessness of school officials about the constitution has anything much to do with "political correctness" and I see the position you took in that original post that Christians are somehow the "real" targets of discrimination now as absurd; discrimination against them is neither greater than or more acceptable than discrimination against other groups, particularly under the law. Laws and the Constitution are broken and have to be defended; if they weren't ever broken they'd be somewhat unnecessary.
If you cannot find anything beyond the initial filing, the case must be false and thrown out. Also if several eye witnesses placed the Vice Principle at the school, but he claims he wasn't there, the case should be thrown out as well. Even if the child was written up and the lawyer showed the papers in court for having a bible as an offense. Then the money for the civil suit ran out and the case had to be dropped.
No, not finding any more information about the first case just meant I couldn't find any more information about it. Single articles, however, rarely give the full picture so I wanted to know more; it is certainly plausible. As for the other case, if you have any source for more information, I'd be happy to see it (Especially if they showed the writeup she got, which is information I hadn't found).
