Re:i need a book for social media?
it's just a company meme. missing manual meme, a brand, like "for idiots".
"the book that should have been in the box"
your money: missing manual
your body: missing manualthe kindle one is just a mini missing manual though. maybe they came to their senses with that one.. "so.. we're making a book about reading books, should we publish this as an ebook on amazon?? "
(yep.. g+ is social media for socialising with people you don't know)

All the time, and a point for virtual keboards.
I guess you don't use the '.' key much.
Yes I do. And that's why this hint is so useful, as it makes typing "." or "," almost as easy as any other letter.
But of course, the other thing I have to point out is that if it were really a problem, since the keyboard is virtual Apple could simply move it to the main keyboard (or let you customize the keyboard yourself). That's the advantage of not shipping with buttons you cannot change via update! I have used plenty of other small-keyboard devices where I cursed some choice they had made on key or symbol access, and those devices were never going to get better. -
Re:Yesterday, NYT 'journalistic neutrality'; today
A review is an opinion piece, like an editorial, which the NYT also prints. I'm no fan of the NYT, but there's no claim to neutrality in this case. For as much as this is opinion, and as much as Pogue is a Mac fan boy, it's nonetheless the opinion of a Mac fan boy who's knowledgeable enough to have written and/or sold several manuals on MS Windows---please see the list of MS Windows manuals at The Missing Manuals web page. Yes, he's quite biased, as are we all. But in this case it's the bias of an extremely informed person. As for me, the idea of a neutral review makes no sense. If you don't have any opinions or biases, why would you want to write a review? And if you could write a neutral review (that seems like a contradiction to me), who would bother reading something so pointless and boring?

Re:Test of the NYT article
So... his publisher Pogue Press is an imprint of O'Reilly. Since when is O'Reilly barred from Applestores?

Re:3 monthsI seem to remember that David Pogue has a Missing Manual series book on Garageband that's scheduled to be released before the spring is over.
If it's anything like the Mac OS X book he wrote for Panther users, I would say it's likely to be very helpful as a guide.
