musicplasma visulisation
try out http://www.musicplasma.com./
It has an interesting [flash based] visulisation engine that shows associations between artists and their peers. The interface is reasonably nice and quick to use. It seems if you create an account then you can create your own maps and recommendations. -
A similar website
It doesnt play the music though

Re:Ajax compared to Flash
I've always thought Breeze was pretty impressive. It's a collaboration suite for meetings, events, and presentations. The part of it that's easist to demonstrate is the presentation part, since Macromedia often uses Breeze presentations in their marketing - here's a Breeze presentation about Macromedia Flex. It's like a virtual PowerPoint presentation, but I think it's much more pleasant to watch a Breeze presentation than to click through someone's slides on the web.
LivePlasma, is certainly something that I wouldn't know how to implement in plain HTML.
http://www.slideroll.com/>Slideroll creates online slideshows.
The whole, zoom in and out on pictures thing used to be a good example, but Google Maps and Virtual Earth both know that trick.
I guess most of these examples are data visualization/presentation software, but then that's what most of the web is, isn't it? I personally prefer Flash as a video player, but that's not necessarily what we're talking about here.
I guess my question is, is there something inherient in Flash that you think makes it crappy?
As you've said, web games, which are the most client-side intensive content on the web use Flash very well, is there some inherient reason you think these capabilites couldn't be employed for serious purposes? -
Oh god yes,
music plasma saved my life! it shows a graphical map of artists and how they connect to other artists (in way of "genre"). Its some entirely arbitrary linkage and the breadth isnt that great, but its supposedly all based on user inputs.
i find audioscrobbler to be too over-run by the songs everyone has on their playlist. it doesnt really help you discern genre's, which is what is so great about musicplasma. its much more directly peer to peer, but somewhat less useful. you pretty much have to find well done groups, but even well done groups rarely play the music in the group.
Mood + genre awareness has a long ways to go.

Re:Interesting Subject
Check out http://www.musicplasma.com/. it uses IMDB album data and draws graphs showing connections between artists who worked together. Its a good for finding artists and bands which are similar to bands you know you like.

Re:Good direction for filesharing
Soulseek has features for "taste-matching" and such things, allowing you to get recommendations based on other with similar taste. I spend some time there.
But I also quite often head over to Musicplasma when I want to explore new music. There I can get some new interesting names based on bands I already know and then use a regular P2P service find it. -
Finding new artists
Well, I didn't see this posted already, so here you go: MusicPlasma
Search for an artist you enjoy and find others linked to him/her/them. You're guaranteed to find something new. Now even finding new groups is all but handed to you. No more complaining. -
Re:MusicVine
See Music Plasma for an awesome artist relationship display or sign up for an Audioscrobbler account.
