But the screwing doesn't stop there...As I chronicled in this article, you are pretty much powerless to change DSL providers once they pull the rug from under you. That's because the contract for service is between the CLEC and your local phone provider -- not between you and the telco. So even though it's your name on the phone bill, you'll have a tough time convincing the phone company to terminate your current (underwater) DSL service so you can move to another service.
You won't find this little tidbit of information in your DSL service agreement. You're at the mercy of the CLEC to terminate its contract with the phone company.

Re:I read this on NerdPerfect
I think you missed the point the original writer ( an anonymous poster on Nerdperect) was trying to make.
How long has the bttv driver been in beta ? have you ever tried to get ATI All-In-Wonder card to show TV ? Have you ever tried to get any of the recent Turtle Beach sound cards to work ? How long have we had to wait for USB support, now that we have it, how long will we have to wait for it to support anything beyond keyboards and mice ? How far away is Firewire support ? How long did we have to wait for 3D support for cards other than Voodoo, now that we have some, when will these drives be out of beta (when will they stop sucking).
I personally love Linux and wouldn't use anything else, however, if you think Linux is "Ready for the Desktop" or "As easy as Windows", you are fooling yourself.

Funny thing, MSNBC reporting on MS. Check this. This article, brought to my attention by NerdPerfect yesterday states that SANS found the hole on June 27, but agreed with Microsoft to not release the information until Microsoft posted a workaround on July 14.
Well, i bet someone is happy this didn't get out in the wild before then, eh?

The Internet lockdown has begun.
e4, you have absolutely no clue. It's obvious your history of the Internet starts at about the time Gore invented it. The lockdown has begun, so instead of asking "How do I turn a buck on the web," you should ask yourself "How do I ensure free and unimpeded information exchange?".

Corel Comment (Dr. Mike Strikes Again)
A while back I wrote a comment on another site about Corel. Interested parties can find it here.

How typically arrogant...Once again, Roblimo tries to pass off as original material that has already been submitted. I posted the following submissions:
Here are your recent submissions to Slashdot, and their status within the system:
2000-03-15 16:47:30 Keepers of the Flame (articles, linux) (declined)
2000-03-15 06:03:54 LDP and OSWG: Room in town for two? (articles, news) (declined)
Notice how both were declined. Suddenly, Roblimo decides to "revisit" the open-source world. Gee, Rob, where'd you get that idea from?
Could it be that the reason my submissions were declined is that they refer to http://www.nerdperfect.com, another tech newssite?

That's damn good advice.Yes, yes, yes.
I currently run a techy web site (www.nerdperfect.com) which was started as a hobby. I dropped less than $2000 on the entire thing (including server), and am self hosted using a 1 megabit DSL-type connection.
Thus far, the thing hasn't been overly popular (around 80,000 hits this month so far), but there's no worry about having to impress investors or recoup a huge cash outlay, so I can just plug away and build up a loyal readership slowly.
It takes a large portion of the pressure to succeed away when there's nobody breathing down your neck to show certain traffic numbers. I am free to provide content which I feel comfortable with, as opposed to what advertisers or investors want to see. I believe that this freedom shows on the site... I look forward to updating the thing.
If NerdPerfect ever becomes very popular, great... if not, I can just walk away. Doesn't this sound like a better deal than trying to force your project down everyone's throats just so you can break even?

NerdPerfect... breakfast of champions.

Purely perspective, my friend. For me, the exact opposite is true. My NS 4.6 on WinNT crashes perhaps twice a week while my IE5 will bail at least once per use.
One thing's for sure, using Windows sure makes computing an interesting crap-shoot. It's like trying to predict when someone will jump in front of your car.
