Thompson's (Mostly) Polite Interview
Pluvius writes "For the past few weeks, gaming website Netjak has corresponded with infamous anti-video-game lawyer Jack Thompson in reference to his well-publicized proposal to donate money to a charity if someone created a violent game in which a grieving father murdered members of the video-game industry. This has culminated in an interview in which the unusually cordial attorney gives surprisingly viable reasons for not following through on his donation after such a game was created. Unfortunately, Thompson doesn't quite make it to the end of the interview without taking at least one cheap shot towards gamers: '[P]ut down the controller and get a life. Video gaming is an escapist activity and you're being exploited by these companies. It's not healthy; I worry about someone who would play Grand Theft Auto for ten hours a day. It's a masturbatory activity, and it would be better if people put down the controller and went outside.'" -
2005 SpikeTV VGAs Air
Saturday night Spike aired the 2005 SpikeTV Video Game Awards show, showing us via imagery what we already knew from press releases about a month ago. If you want some snarky blow-by-blow netjak has some liveblogging for you to enjoy. It's still sitting on my Tivo, but from all accounts it was marginally better than last year, but still not very good. Both Kotaku and Joystiq have comments on the 'Best Game Blog' category. From the netjak commentary: "It's apparently been too many awards at once - I mean, one before the first ten minutes? We obviously need a 50 Cent song right now. Personally, I like how they find the least ghetto people in the audience to show them barely nodding to the beat. Come on, in the pan-outs, I can see people actually getting into the music. Maybe the cameraman might want to focus on them? It's nice to know, though, that Spike doesn't just get incompetent people in supervisory positions, but in every place of their network." -
State of PC Gaming in 2004 Probed
NetDanzr writes "Netjak.com has published another of its annual articles probing the state of PC gaming last year. The author complains about the demise of strategy and role-playing gaming, at the expense of action titles. Even though he praises Valve's Half-Life 2, he is skeptical about the Steam copy restrictions, and predicts that Valve would face legal challenges because of it in 2005. Slashdot reported on the previous article in the series last year." -

State Of PC Gaming In 2003 Probed
An anonymous reader writes "Netjak has just published an overview of the past year in PC gaming. Unlike all the doomsayers, it was very enthusiastic about the console ports that flooded the market, because, for the author, they indicated the beginning of a renaissance in PC gaming. However, there's also some perceived negative developments. They were surprised to see Electronic Arts lose its last spark of innovative spirit, and unhappy to see a growth in false advertising, especially the usage of established franchise names to support the sales of unrelated games." What were your PC highlights and lowlights for the year? -
Starscape Revives 2D Space Shooter
ViperG writes "A small development team known as Moonpod has developed and self-published Starscape, a top-down 2d scrolling PC space action game. You can download the full game for a modest fee of $25, or just try the demo out for free. I haven't played a game this fun since the good old DOS days. If you don't want to take my word for it, read Avault's review." Other readers also point to positive reviews from StaticGamer and from NetJak for another worthy indie game.
