Re:Real price is 70 EUR
They don't have a store, you can buy it from farnell, CPC(who are farnell but friendlier), RS, Allied electronics(whoever they are), NewIT(who i got mine from) and Maplin
If there isn't a single option there that offers it for less that 70 EUR with tax and shipping, i'll be a little surprised.
Charging 13 EUR for a pre-loaded SD card doesn't seem that awful, especially considering that they(the foundation, who aren't the ones selling the cards) provide you with all the tools and instructions to make your own bootable SD cards, no one's forcing you to do anything here. -
You've got to differentiate....
between the "Sheevaplug" and the "Gurrruplug" (sic).
The original white-boxed Sheevaplug is remarkably robust. I've got one that has been running constantly for over 14 months without any problems (surreptitiously touches wood). On the other hand, the Guruplug was delivered late in a still undeveloped state, was far too complex for its own good and does indeed suffer from a host of psu/general failure problems.
I don't know about the US, but I've found NewIT, the distributors for UK and Europe to be sensible and most helpful in supporting their customers.
If you just want a mini Linux box to play about with, then the Sheevaplug is probably quite safe to buy...

Re:Wait, what?
The power brick appears to be detachable now and is housed in its own space. http://www.newit.co.uk/shop/prodimages/dp_5.jpg I guess in theory that should alleviate the melting problem, or at least make replacing melters easier.

Re:So let me get this straight...
The basic one is still made:
http://www.newit.co.uk/shop/products.php?cat=5 Cheap, USB+EthernetUpdated version are coming RealSoonNow, including one with HDMI
http://www.newit.co.uk/shop/products.php?cat=11 there's a version with eSATA
http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/p-33-guruplug-display.aspxAnd Marvell announced a v.3 at CES last Jan, no real product announced yet.
All of those support Debian, Ubuntu is on the way out since the new Ubuntu requires some instruction set extension that are not available on the old plugs.

Re:Sheeva Plug
I have now ordered two plugs direct from the US costing about £100 in total each.
http://www.newit.co.uk/ claims to have them for next-day dispatch in the UK, though I know nothing about them...
