As a UIQ3 (recently dead variant/GUI of Symbian) user, I would really hope that Motorola (and Sony-Ericsson) stays away from _any_ kind of smart device or anything can be applied on smart device and keep shipping their "design" dumb phones.

They are inconsistent and have awful management. That is why their UI is too. I am not joking.

They, along with the schizoid company Sony Ericsson killed the UIQ. Hope Nokia never answers any of their calls regarding Qt.

They had the interface which is ages ahead of anything running on rock solid Symbian kernel in hand. Know what happened?

Trust me, don't expect anything consistent from Motorola and SE. One day they sign up for Google Android and next day they ship a high end Windows Mobile device thinking developers will trust them and spend months coding for it.

Those wanting the latest versions of the Android SDK instead of a buggy load of old crap have to sign an NDA that prohibits talking about it, publishing screen shots, or sharing code fragments.

Google are a bunch of dollar-hungry corporate arseholes just like Apple and MS, but at least you know where you stand with the latter two, neither of whom are pretending their SDKs are FOSS while behaving in ways that are the antithesis of the openness that's a central tenet of the movement.

Ok, I think I've figured it out- all of your antagonism stems from an initial misunderstanding of what I said at first, and have been misinterpreting my every word after that.

Given that you're unable to see the most obvious benefits of Linux over Windows CE for the embedded hardware developer, I'd say I still question the 'reasoning' behind your actual movites for contributing to this thread.

I understand the benefit sof Linux over Windows CE in plenty of situations. Re-read my posts if you must. You seem to have skipped the parts where I say good things about embedded Linux. Linux is great. Linux is swell. I LOVE LINUX! I run Linux in a number of places. However, that doesn't change the fact that what you can do with Linux, you can do with CE.

Anywho, here is some food for thought- I saw it over on NewMobileComputing. Although, since it is an article stating that total cost of development for WinCE on embedded systems can be cheaper than the same Linux solution, I imagine it is just a lie concocted by the Evil Horned One, Billy G himself, right?

Not saying I trust the study, but interesting none the less... But EVIL! Don't bother reading that link- Linux is your best option anywhere!

Man, it'd sure be nice to get a chunk of that really small Linux out in the field. On my Zaurus, Linux+Qtopia takes up a whopping 18 MB of RAM on boot (WinCE takes up 2-3 MB). It'd be nice if Linux wasn't so memory hungry on that particular embedded system. :)

You don't happen to have a sprint A500 phone like I have, do you? I found out it's not really 3G and it doesn't have GPS.

You can, however find out your location relative to base stations that are at known lat/lon locations, and they used gps to find these tower locations. Enabling the GPS rx'er that I thought I had bought was one of the first things I tried to do when I joined the sprint pcs developer program
