Grokker Search Engine Provides Visual Search Results
KeatonMill writes "The New York Times (as always, free registration) ran this article about a new search engine, called Grokker, created by a company called Groxis. Grokker builds a map of content catagories using metadata. So far, it is used in the Amazon.com online catalog and the Northern Light search engine. Comparison Of Google to Teoma
randomErr writes "SearchEngineWatch.com was compared the good and the bad of both engine. They wrote the cool thing about Teoma is that its community-seeking behavior is both query-specific, and happens in real time. Whenever you type in a query, we're actually looking for the communities after you type the query. Teoma's approach differs from Google's, which uses a similar, but more static ranking system. A reader writes: "I noticed that the Open Source Development Lab is looking for nominations and commentary on the Community Nominations to the Board. They've got some of the usual suspects on there, but will also take other suggestions. The organization was profiled by Nick Petreley a while back as well." -
Search Engines Can't Keep Up
joshwa writes "The Boston Globe today reported a study by Nature saying that search engines barely index one-sixth of the pages on the net. To a certain extent it's a plug for the Northern Light search engine, which claims to be the most comprehensive (at a staggering 16 percent of the web), but it's an interesting read nonetheless. "
