I mean, 3 humans, lives snuffed out by the horror of nuclear power - and what does it give us?

Well it provides employment for the homeless and workers from around the world in a high tech clean-up that proves the benevolence od the nuclear industry.

The people who enthusiastically support nuclear power now have a way to sincerely show their commitment to their cause by participating in the effort side by side with the workers who are cleaning it up.

Japanese government changing the "safe health standards" just moments after disaster struck. Now includes absurd amounts of radiation 20-30 times more than previously, which were already 2-10 times more than most Western countries'. Instead, the plant actually withstood the quake and, what's more, actually shut itself down automatically during the quake. What happened next is what screws TEPCO (rightfully so)

Hmmm, actually it is not true .
The meltdown of at least one of the core was caused by the earthquake.
In a country like Japan, were magnitude 7 earthquake happens on a 6 months basis, the Japanese safety at the site was absolutely inadequate. And TEPCO new it.

It didn't cost that much to make the other plants to have diesel generators that didn't fail. Completely preventable.

Or how about they just dump seawater on it to begin with? Sure you would have lost the plant, but you wouldn't end up with a meltdown.

Compare that with the cost of *trillions* that tax payers may spend.

And if we aren't willing to carry that responsibility and cost, then we shouldn't have it to begin with.

There are plenty of private companies who have tried to break into nuclear power but there's not a single government in a country with a large enough market to make the investment worthwhile that doesn't micromanage every aspect of the energy industry.

France is not big enough? China isn't either? How about India and Russia? How big does a nation have to be then? In all 4 nations the government decides what gets built not the market. And none of them have the US's regulations either. Hell France has dumped their waste in the ocean and Russia sent prisoners to work the mines.
