Re:I Wonder Why...
The popular library for PHP is poorly documented. The API has each function documented (phpdoc), but nothing to actually get you started using the API. When we needed to do something other than the rudimentary sample code, it turned into a huge hassle. The API seems far more complicated than it needs to be.
Developers aren't going to adopt it much if they have to keep re-implementing the standard from scratch. OpenID needs to publish a well documented API for each popular language that might need it. That'll get the ball rolling faster.

Re:Tell Xandros what you think
Looks like there's already one in the RoR SVN repository (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/changeset/6245) based on on JanRain's Ruby OpenID library.

OpenID links from the "5% a week" guy
I was also the one who made the "5% a week growth" claim (at the Internet Identity Workshop this week) and unfortunately it was not clearly quoted. "5% a week" describes the growth we are seeing in new relying parties (aka sites-that-support-OpenID). Yes, its impossible for this growth to keep up over time but its still a valid data point. Graph is forthcoming.
I'm shamelessly linking to my own blog here but I think there are a few answers to the questions people are posting on this thread:
* How do I choose a third-party OpenID provider?
* Converting your existing site to OpenID
* How do I use my own domain as my OpenID?
* OpenID and Phishing -
Re:Overly complicated
Cortana: Check out this link:
http://www.openidenabled.com/openid/use-your-own-u rl-as-an-openid
It allows you to use LiveJournal, the PIP or MyOpenID and your own domain.
If you want to run your own library, there is a PHP server out there:

Re:Overly complicated
You can set up a page, directory or subdomain of your personal site to forward onto an OpenID server that you've got an account with. If you want to switch server, just change the forwarding details and the sites using your OpenID don't notice a thing.

Re:YATBFARIADS
Your question may have been tongue-in-cheek, but it's really not so far-fetched. Slashdot could certainly become an OpenID server, in which case you could sign in as http://slashdot.org/~jamesh (or, I guess, slashdot.org/87723, if you really want to). Or
/. could buy the @slashdot community i-name, and perhaps then you could be @slashdot/~jamesh.
All we need is for someone to integrate OpenID with slashcode. There's already a perl library. And a $5,000 bounty if it gets into the slashcode main distribution.
