Sony Launches E3 Site, Inadvertently Teases Titles
Thanks to EvilAvatar for its article discussing the recent launching of Sony's E3 site, showcasing "a few select [PlayStation 2] titles" that'll be displayed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles next month, including Champions 2: Return To Arms, the Snowblind-developed Champions Of Norrath sequel. However, if you "start fiddling with the numbers at the end of the URL" on the official site, you can see very basic, unlinked-to info on other games that'll be publicly shown by Sony at E3, including the unannounced action title Rise Of The Kisai from Bottle Rocket/Sony, Dark Cloud 3 from Sony, Final Fantasy XII from Square Enix, Destroy All Humans! from Pandemic/THQ, and, interestingly, Cold Fear from Namco, a survival horror (?) title (related to the thought-lost U.S.S. Antarctica?) rumored in development at Alone In The Dark IV developers Darkworks. Update: 04/26 18:30 GMT by S : The entire site, even the previously public titles, are now password-protected and private. -
Star Wars Battlefront Announced, Detailed
Tim Butler writes "Official Playstation Magazine has a few initial details regarding Star Wars Battlefront, a newly-announced online PS2 multiplayer game that borrows a lot from Battlefield 1942." The game, reminiscent of the previously covered Galactic Conquest mod for BF1942, has been confirmed for Xbox and PC as well, and is described as: "SOCOM's online-multiplayer experience, only with a wide variety of characters to choose from and a bunch of cool Star Wars vehicles to operate. You can play in the Galactic Civil War or the Clone Wars, meaning you can choose one of four armies to command (Rebels vs. Imperials or Republic vs. Separatists). [It] includes pretty much every major ride you've seen in a Star Wars flick." Update: 12/03 05:58 GMT by S : GameSpy adds that the developer is Pandemic Studios, creator of Star Wars:Clone Wars and the forthcoming Full Spectrum Warrior. -
CIA Pursues Anti-Terrorism Videogame
Thanks to the Washington Times for their story revealing the CIA is developing a videogame aimed at helping its analysts think like terrorists. The agency is working with the Institute Of Creative Technologies, who helped the Army set up development of Full Spectrum Warrior, and according to the article: "The game will select a scenario that could involve analysts playing terrorist-cell leaders or members, a terrorist 'money mover' or a facilitator", or alternatively "a U.S. Customs agent, or even a cooperative or hostile neighbor living next to a terrorist", to help anti-terrorism workers "think outside the box." -
Second Army-Sponsored Game Comes To Xbox
Shackleford writes "CNN has an article that discusses a new Xbox videogame, the commercial version of an United States Army-sponsored project to train squad leaders in real-life combat tactics. It was developed by Pandemic Studios and the commercial Xbox game is titled "Full Spectrum Warrior" - there's an ad for it here." Here's the official site for the non-commercial console version of Full Spectrum Warrior - is this version intended for internal use only? Obviously, both of these are completely separate titles to America's Army, another Army-sponsored game. -
