Lots o' LinksPlease pardon the karma whoring.
A compilation of bootlegs was released, naturally a-la bootleg, on a collection called "The Best Bootlegs in the World, Ever." Here's a tracklist.
Radio 1 recently did a special on the whole bootleg scene (also called "mash-ups", "cut-ups" and "remixes"). You can listen to it in MP3 format here.
The best sites I've seen are:
Dsico
Boom Selection
Evolution Control Commitee
Due to a recent New York Times article, and because of these site's recent popularity among other online media sources, you may have to wait a couple of days to get to the MP3's on these sites.
A incompletely informal introduction to good mash-ups:- Dsico - Love Will Freak Us (Missy E - Get ur Freak On/Joy Division - Love will Tear Us Apart)
- Dsico - Two Turntables are Ice (Ice T - Check Your Game/Beck - Where It's At)
- Grange Hill Grammar (Nelly - Country Grammar/Theme From Grange Hill)
- We Dont Give A Damn About Our Friends (Adina Howard - Freak Like Me/Gary Numan & Tubeway Army - Are Friends Electric?)
- I Wanna Dance With Numbers (Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody/Kraftwerk - Numbers/Computer World)
Hope this helps... -

It's a lightsaber!
No really, the soulwax trax is. Well, if you have the Synaesthesia installed as you listen to it. Most stuff should spread nicely around the screen, but this comes up with a phalic lightsaber in the centre of the screen, with pink around it. Most odd...
Still, the tracks are pretty good if you can get hold of them! -
Not right now
Personally I'd be pretty worried about running software on my phone unless it came from someone who I trust. I wonder how long it'll be before we see the first wireless worms with systems like this, I notice on their game engine page they mention WGE System allowing access to system resources. I wanted to find out exactly what this was but I couldn't find a link to their "open API" docs (mabye I'm blind) and I'm not really prepared to download their SDK for the priviledge.
I don't see much of a market for these kind of applications right now and I'm pretty content only playing games on my PC, but I suppose once the technology gets better I might give it a try. Having said that I had a flatmate who would spend hours sitting in a corner playing "snake" with his phone (yes haha very original, now get your mind out of the gutter) so perhaps theres more of a market than I think. The closest I came to playing wireless games would have to be wap elite which is a wap version of the classic game Elite. Oh and if you don't know Elite you are not a true nerd ;-) -
Re:ELITE GBAgot a WAP phone?
take a look at Modesty's WAP Elite port.
Text based elite port (based on Ian Bell's txtelite reference code and a bunch of reverse engineering) implemented in ColdFusion with combat and trading, links to WAP emulators at the site to keep those phone bills down
Galaxy 1 is all there, galaxies 2-8 to follow. Vipers went in a month or so ago (bastards!!). Thargons and Witchspace to follow soon.
As Modesty says, now you CAN sell slaves to Diso while you're waiting for the bus.TomV

Re:Oh for the olden days...(I'm thinking of Crammond, the Oliver twins, Braben and Bell, etc etc.)
...
two undergraduates could introduce a totally new genre into gaming with one game (Elite)this put me in mind of a friend who's currently doing something that could provide good portfolio (she doesn't need it, it was actually a bit of fun and a chanceto play with WML)...
I'm thinking of WAP Elite. What she's done is re-created the Elite environment in client-server multi-player guise, for WAP phones and emulators. A potential employer could see the site, check the gameplay, because Elite is such a classic, they would rapidly find that she's implemented all the canonical stuff with near-total accuracy, whilst still introducing new stuff (the multiplayer aspect, implementing it in coldFusion and WML etc). They could also see that she's got 300+ players by word of mouth while the game's still in Beta, and plenty of traffic at alt.fan.elite
Now that would get me interested. As would a long list of Quake mods she's done.
Go there. Check it out. Enjoy.

New life for Old GamesHopefully reasonably on-topic, but I beg your indulgence while I take the opportunity to shamelessly plug a nice port of a classic game to a new platform
Currently in Beta, and the more testers the merrier, it's...
Elite for WAP phones. Currently featuring the original Galaxy 1, full trading model, most of the combat, more graphics on the way.
If you don't have a WAP phone, it's playable thru emulators (I prefer the M3Gate one), links available from the site.
Full kudos to Modesty and Dan Catt for all the work.
Try it now, at phink.net
Warning - can seriously damage your productivity. BUT you can get a great price for slaves at Xexedi while you're waiting for the bus.
