Re:Suggestions...
It's still like that and it's a pity. I never get the grasp on languages without a solid grammar.
This http://www.pimsleurapproach.com/ methods occasionally get the stupids fooled enought that they think they are mastering a new language in fifteen days. That's because at the end of the lesson they can say "hello my name is
...". In fact I think that in order to master a new language you don't need just to study (with a grammar) but also to get one year of practice.BTW: I am a fluent speaker of both English, modern Greek and of course my motherthounge.

Re:Yes, you want, too.Pimsleur I recommend it to everyone. I used it myself and am VERY satisfied with what I know, I've spent maybe a total of 10 hours (because I listen to lessons twice just to be sure I've got it down, although you don't have to) learning Japanese and I can actually SPEAK the language to a point. Most people who learned via Rosetta can only tell me what an object translated is, I can form sentences. Better yet, I can meet, greet, ask for directions, say thank you, goodbye, and even have insight into how you act with their culture (your basic tourist tasks right?) opposed to saying "apple" "orange".
Whether this is factual and relevant: Our courses took 40 years to develop and are now used by the FBI, CIA, and business professionals everywhere. Also read how it works ("You can rapidly learn Japanese!" to the end of "Children love cookies" and you will understand how it can be effective. -

Re:Now, if only...
But Pimsleur doesn't have "English for Cybertron natives" tapes. Are they working for the government too?

Re:Should this come to pass...
Or a language training thingy, like Pimsleur's Eastern Arabic or Farsi courses
Oh wait, they will probably recognize this very fast:
"Pimsleur courses help people who need to speak another language quickly. Our courses took 40 years to develop and are now used by the FBI, CIA, and business professionals everywhere. They're so effective, you have nothing to lose!" ;)

Pimsleur
I have had some experience with Pimsleur language learning materials (Japanese though). I found the material started out pretty easy and got more difficult in later lessons, but was not unmanagable.
It's also a tad expensive, but if you are serious about learning then combining this with other sources reading websites or other publications in the desired language, etc) would probably be a great start.
(I personally wouldn't pay that much for it, though.)

Lonely Planet and Pimsleur.
Japanese write software like crazy and there are plenty of open source coders out there. Make contact w/ a few of them and try localizing their projects to English (US) for the hell of it.
Sounds like you're on a mission impossible, good luck.
